George Garrett (hurler)
George Christopher Garrett (23 December 1908 – 19 January 1969) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Cork, Garrett first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-two when he joined the Cork senior team for the 1931 championship. Garrett went on to play a key role for Cork in what was a decade-long barren spell for the team, and won one All-Ireland medal. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team for five years, Garrett won one Railway Cup medal in 1934. At club level he won three successive championship medals with Blackrock. Throughout his career Garrett made 12 championship appearances. His retirement came following Cork's defeat by Waterford in the 1938 championship. Blackrock GAA
Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. The club is sometimes known as 'The Rockies'. History Blackrock Hurling Club was officially founded in 1883, one year before the foundation of the Gaelic Athletic Association itself. The 1931 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 45th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 10 May 1931 and ended on 1 November 1931. Tipperary were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial series of games. 1938 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1938 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 52nd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 1 May 1938 and ended on 4 September 1938. Tipperary were the defending champions but were disqualified from the championship after fielding an ineligible player in their Munster semi-final defeat of Clare. On 4 September 1938, Dublin won the championship following a 2-5 to 1-6 defeat of Waterford in the All-Ireland final. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling).
