George D. Gardner (September 28, 1898 – January, 1974) was an American football and basketball coach. He was the head football coach at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas, serving for five seasons, from 1925 until 1929, and compiling a record of 10–25–4. In 1937, Gardner was named basketball coach at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. George Gardner (1810, Ardentinny – 1849, Kandy) was a Scottish biologist mainly interested in botany. Gardner's father was a gardener first to the Earl of Dunmore in Ardentinny, then from 1816 to the Earl of Eglinton at Ardrossan. In 1822, his parents moved to Glasgow where he attended the grammar-school and acquired a good knowledge of the Latin language. He began the study of medicine in the Andersonian university of Glasgow in 1829, eventually becoming a surgeon. George Edward "Bud" Gardner (October 8, 1942 – November 6, 2006) was a Canadian ice hockey goaltender. Career Gardner played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks, and in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Los Angeles Sharks and Vancouver Blazers, in a career that lasted from 1963 until 1974. After several years with the Red Wings and their minor league affiliates, Gardner joined the Canucks as they entered the NHL in 1970, becoming their first goalie. He spent two seasons in Vancouver before leaving for the rival WHA, spending two seasons there before retiring. Gardner (whaling Family)
The Gardner family were a group of whalers operating out of Nantucket, Massachusetts, from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. Some members of the family gained wider exposure due to their discovery of various islands in the Pacific Ocean. By marriage, they were related to the Coffins, another Nantucket whaling family. Captain Gardner and the Salem Witch Trials The aged and eccentric farmer Giles Corey, charged with wizardry during the Salem witch trials in 1692, refused to plead to his indictment, and as a result was subjected to the terrible death by peine fort et dure, i.e. by being crushed to death under heavy rocks. Judge Samuel Sewell in his diary records that the judges, who did not wish to inflict this barbaric penalty, asked Corey's friend Captain Gardner of Nantucket to plead with him to stand his trial in the ordinary way. George Gardiner (March 17, 1877 – July 8, 1954) was a famous Irish boxer in America who was the first undisputed World Light Heavyweight Champion. He held claims to both the World Middleweight Title as well as the World Heavyweight Title. He was the second man in history to hold the World's Light Heavyweight title, defeating the first Light Heavyweight Champion, Jack Root, by KO after 12 rounds. George Lawrence Harter Gardner (1 September 1853 – 20 September 1925) was an eminent Anglican priest in the first quarter of the twentieth century. Gardner was born on 1 September 1853, educated at Cheltenham College and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and ordained in 1875. After a curacy at St. Mary's, Nottingham he was the incumbent at All Saints, Cheltenham until 1911. From then until 1920 he was Diocesan Chaplain to the Bishop of Birmingham; and Archdeacon of Aston from 1913. His last post was Archdeacon of Cheltenham. George Gardiner (settler)
George Gardiner (1608/1615 - c. 1677), sometimes spelled Gardner, was an early inhabitant of Newport in the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, and one of the original settlers of Aquidneck Island. He held some minor offices within the colony in the early 1640s, shortly after which he began a common-law marriage with Herodias (Long) Hicks, who came to live with him after separating from her first husband. This relationship lasted for nearly 20 years, after which Herodias petitioned the court to have Gardiner leave her alone, and she left Newport to go west of the Narragansett Bay and live with John Porter, a land-rich settler who was one of the original purchasers of the Pettaquamscutt lands (later South Kingstown, Rhode Island). Gardiner apparently had seven children with Herodias, and after her departure, five more with subsequent wife Lydia Ballou. His family produced a large number of descendants.
