George Forsyth (footballer)
George Patrick Forsyth Sommer (born 20 June 1982) is a Peruvian politician and former international footballer. Forsyth played as a goalkeeper for Alianza Lima, Borussia Dortmund II, Atlético Universidad, Sport Boys and Atalanta, and he also earned 7 caps for the Peru national team. Starting a career in politics at local level, Forsyth was elected lieutenant mayor and district councilman of La Victoria in 2010, and thus gained prominence as the first footballer to be elected to public office in Peru while still playing at professional level. In 2014, he briefly served as the district's acting mayor when the incumbent ran for mayor of Lima. In 2018, Forsyth was elected as mayor of La Victoria for We Are Peru. He resigned in October 2020 in order to run for President of Peru in the 2021 general elections with National Victory, the succeeding party of National Restoration. George Forsyth (harbourmaster)
Captain George Andrew Duncan Forsyth (14 June 1843 – 2 September 1894) was the fifth harbourmaster at the port of Fremantle (1874–1886) and the first chief harbourmaster for the Colony of Western Australia (1879–1886). George Andrew Duncan Forsyth was born in Southwark, London on 14 June 1843, the son of Andrew Forsyth (1817–1876) and Eliza Maria née Kitteridge (1818–1862). He was the godson of British caricaturist and book illustrator, George Cruikshank, who taught Forsyth how to draw. Forsyth went to sea when he was 14 years old; when he was 21 years old he came to Western Australia and worked in the coastal shipping trade. He settled in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1866. Initially he was employed as a water police constable, where he was attacked and almost died at the hand of a convict that he was transporting, before becoming an assistant maritime pilot at Rottnest Island in 1869. George Frederick Harry Forsyth (23 October 1898 – 13 August 1974) was a New Zealand trade unionist and politician. Biography Early life Forsyth was born in England in 1898. He served in the Royal Navy during World War I and fought at the Battle of Jutland, Dogger Bank, Heligoland and the Zeebrugge Raid. One of his most vivid memories from the war was meeting Colonel T. E. Lawrence whilst he was serving off the Palestinian and Syrian coast aboard the . He was subsequently a member of the King's Empire Veterans. In 1925 he married Edith Elizabeth Ellen Jordan. During World War II he commanded the Auckland Home Guard. George Alexander Forsyth (November 7, 1837, – September 12, 1915) was a United States military officer most notable for his service in the cavalry. Early life Forsyth was born in Muncy, Pennsylvania. He attended Canandaigua Academy and moved to Illinois before the American Civil War. Civil War Forsyth enlisted April 19, 1861, as a private in Barker's Company, Chicago Volunteer Dragoons (a 3-month regiment) and mustered out August 18, 1861. He received a commission as a first lieutenant in the 8th Illinois Cavalry on September 18, 1861, followed by promotions to captain on February 12, 1862, and major on September 1, 1863. He saw action in all major campaigns fought by the Army of the Potomac. He also fought in many cavalry actions in the Shenandoah Valley, where he served as aide-de-camp to Maj. Gen. George Elmer Forsythe (January 8, 1917 – April 9, 1972) was an American computer scientist and numerical analyst who founded and led Stanford University's Computer Science Department. Forsythe is often credited with coining the term "computer science" and is recognized as a founding figure in the field. Forsythe came to Stanford in the Mathematics Department in 1959, and served as professor and chairman of the Computer Science department from 1965 until his death. He served as the president of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and also co-authored four books on computer science and a fifth on meteorology, and edited more than 75 other books on computer science.
