Georg Forster
Johann George Adam Forster, also known as Georg Forster (, 27 November 1754 – 10 January 1794), was a German naturalist, ethnologist, travel writer, journalist and revolutionary. At an early age, he accompanied his father, Johann Reinhold Forster, on several scientific expeditions, including James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific. His report of that journey, ''A Voyage Round the World'', contributed significantly to the ethnology of the people of Polynesia and remains a respected work. As a result of the report, Forster, who was admitted to the Royal Society at the early age of twenty-two, came to be considered one of the founders of modern scientific travel literature. After returning to continental Europe, Forster turned toward academia. He taught natural history at the Collegium Carolinum in the Ottoneum, Kassel (1778–84), and later at the Academy of Vilna (Vilnius University) (1784–87). George Forster (traveller)
George Forster (died 1792) was an English traveller and civil servant of the East India Company, on the Madras establishment. He has sometimes been confused with the German naturalist Georg Forster. He is notable for being the first Briton to have journeyed from India through Central Asia to Russia and published a journal of his travels. Sir George Forster, 2nd Baronet (21 March 1796 – 4 April 1876), was an Irish politician. He was born at Baronstown Glebe, co. Louth, the only son and heir of Sir Thomas Forster, 1st Baronet of Coolderry, co. Monaghan and educated at Trinity College, Dublin, graduating B.A. in 1817 and M.A. in 1833. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1843. In 1817 Forster was appointed High Sheriff of Monaghan and then elected to the United Kingdom House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Monaghan Monaghan ( ; ) is the county town of County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. George Forster (murderer)
George Forster (or Foster) was found guilty of murdering his wife and child by drowning them in Paddington Canal, London. He was hanged at Newgate on 18 January 1803, shortly after which his body was taken to a nearby house where it was used in an experiment by Italian scientist Giovanni Aldini. At his trial the events were reconstructed. Forster's mother-in-law recounted that her daughter and grandchild had left her house to see Forster at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 4 December 1802. Joseph Bradfield, in whose house Forster lodged, reported that they had stayed together that night and gone out at 10 a.m. on the Sunday morning. He also stated that Forster and his wife had not been on good terms because she wished to live with him. Various witnesses saw Forster with his wife and child in public houses near Paddington Canal during the day on the Sunday.
