George Flint (basketball)
George Melville "Doc" Flint (June 13, 1883 – January 2, 1960) was an American college basketball player and coach. He played at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a two-time All-American, and served as the head basketball coach at the University of Pittsburgh's for ten seasons, from 1911 to 1921. Biography Flint was born in Ontario, Canada and moved to Pennsylvania at an early age. In 1903 he played on a basketball team organized by Pittsburgh Pirates great Honus Wagner. In college, he earned All-American status as basketball player in 1906 and 1907 at the University of Pennsylvania. While at Penn, he played center and served as the captain of the Quakers team that would win an Eastern Intercollegiate championship in 1905–06. He later became the head coach the University of Pittsburgh's Panthers men's basketball team for ten seasons from 1911–12 to 1920–21. George Howard Flint (born February 26, 1937) is a former American football guard who played five seasons with the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League (AFL). Flint played college football at Arizona State University and attended North High School in Phoenix, Arizona. He was also a member of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Flint was an AFL All-Star in 1965. George Washington Flint
George Washington Flint (March 2, 1844 — October 23, 1921) was an American educator and academic administrator who served as the second president of Storrs Agricultural College, now the University of Connecticut, from 1898 to 1901. Education and career Born in Yarmouth, Novia Scotia, and raised in Maine, Flint was the son of William and Emeline (Vickery) Flint. He graduated salutorian from Bates College in 1871 and earned his master's degree from Bates in 1874. A lifelong secondary school teacher and administrator, Flint served as principal of Franceston Academy in New Hampshire (1871–1873), West Lebanon Academy in Maine (1873–1874), and Collinsville High School in Connecticut (1875–1898). He was a leading citizen in the Collinsville community, chairing the Ecclesiastical Society of the Collinsville Congregational Church, superintending Sunday school, and serving as president of the Collinsville Savings Society. Mixed Armistice Commissions
The Mixed Armistice Commissions (MAC) is an organisation for monitoring the ceasefire along the lines set by the General Armistice Agreements. It was composed of United Nations Military Observers and was part of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization peacekeeping force in the Middle East. The MAC comprised on four sections to monitor each of the four truce agreements, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan/Israel MAC, the Israel/Syrian MAC, the Israel/Lebanon MAC and the Egypt/Israel MAC. The various MACs were located on the cease fire lines and, through close liaison with headquarters in Jerusalem, were charged with supervising the truce, investigating border incidents, and taking remedial action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. George Flinter
George Dawson Flinter (died 1838), was an adventurer and a mercenary. Life Flinter, an Irishman by birth, entered the British Army in 1811 as an ensign in the 7th West India regiment of foot, and was advanced to the rank of lieutenant on 22 July 1813. He was sent with his regiment to Curaçao in the West Indies in 1812, and in 1815 visited Caracas, then in the throes of an unusually bloody and exasperating civil war. Here he acted as interpreter to the British Embassy. In the following year he was placed on the half-pay list, and seeing no prospect of promotion in the British service, he fixed his residence at Caracas. He was treated with great distinction by the Spanish Captain-General Juan Manuel Cajigal, and he obtained employment as interpreter between the Spaniards, English and Americans.
