George Dixon Snell
George Dixon Snell (March 18, 1836 – May 12, 1911) was the mayor of Spanish Fork, Utah Territory from 1873 until 1881 as well as two earlier periods. Snell was born in New Brunswick. His parents, Cyrus Snell and Rhoda Barnes joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) two months after his birth and in 1853 moved to Utah Territory. He went with them there. In 1856 he went to California and then returned to Utah the following year in a company led by Perrigrine Sessions. He was part of the Nauvoo Legion during its resistance to the federal government's intervention in Utah. It was while serving in the Nauvoo Legion that Snell was baptized a Latter-day Saint. Senll first became mayor of Spanish Fork in 1861, but only served for a short time. He was again elected mayor for a short time in 1865. Spanish Fork is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Provo–Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The 2020 census reported a population of 42,602. Spanish Fork, Utah is the 20th largest city in Utah based on official 2017 estimates from the US Census Bureau. Spanish Fork lies in the Utah Valley, with the Wasatch Range to the east and Utah Lake to the northwest. I-15 passes the northwest side of the city. Payson is approximately six miles to the southwest, Springville lies about four miles to the northeast, and Salem is approximately 4.5 miles to the south. Maureen Ursenbach Beecher
Maureen Ursenbach Beecher (born March 19, 1935) is a historian and editor of the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). She studied at Brigham Young University (BYU) and the University of Utah. She worked in the History Department for the LDS Church from 1972 to 1980, and became a professor of English at BYU in 1981 while continuing her work in Mormon history at the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Church History. She published a popular book of Eliza R. Snow's writings. Early life and education Beecher was born on March 19, 1935, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the youngest of four children. Her parents were Charles Ursenbach and Margaret Lucille Harvey.
