	George Denison (American Politician) George Denison (February 22, 1790 – August 20, 1831) was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography Denison (uncle of Charles Denison) was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He attended the Wilkes-Barre Academy. He served as clerk of the Wilkes-Barre borough council from 1811 to 1814, and member of the council for many years, serving as president in 1823 and 1824. He served as recorder and registrar of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, from 1812 to 1815. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1813 and commenced practice in Luzerne County. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1815 and 1816. He was elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses. Life Brother of politician Evelyn Denison, 1st Viscount Ossington, colonial administrator Sir William Denison and bishop Edward Denison, he was born on 11 December 1805 at Ossington, Nottinghamshire, and educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1819 he was sent to Eton. In 1828 he was elected fellow of Oriel College; and after a few years there as a tutor, during which he was ordained and acted as curate at Cuddesdon, he became rector of Broadwindsor, Dorset (1838). He became a prebendary of Sarum in 1841 and of Wells in 1849. In 1851 he was preferred to the valuable living of East Brent, Somerset, and in the same year was made Archdeacon of Taunton. 	George Taylor Denison Captain George Taylor Denison (December 29, 1783 – December 18, 1853) was a British-born landowner, military officer and community leader in Upper Canada (later Canada West). Life and career He was born in England, the son of Captain John Denison and Sophia Taylor. He traveled to Upper Canada and the town of York, Upper Canada, in 1796 with his parents and two brothers. He inherited the bulk of his family's property and, after the War of 1812, purchased and acquired land through marriage around what is now the Kensington Market neighborhood of Toronto. At the end of his life, he held in York and was one of the wealthiest landowners in Canada West. He married four times and fathered thirteen children; he wed Esther Borden Lippincott (daughter of Richard Lippincott) in 1806, Maria Taylor in 1828, Elizabeth Eleanor Caldwell in 1835, and Mary Priscilla Coates in 1850. Life and career He was a scion of what would later be called the Family Compact, the closely associated group of insiders in Upper Canada from which colonial Lieutenant Governors picked those to appoint to political appointments and sinecures. His grandfather John Denison was a good friend of Peter Russell (politician), Peter Russell, the acting Lieutenant Governor. His grandfather, and father George Taylor Denison, acquired substantial wealth in real estate. He articled under George Cartwright Strachan, another member of the Family Compact, and was admitted to the bar in 1834. His father distinguished himself during the War of 1812 and, in 1822, founded the York Dragoons, a cavalry militia unit, which he paid for out of his own funds. 	George Taylor Denison III Lieutenant-Colonel George Taylor Denison III, FRSC (31 August 1839 – 6 June 1925) was a Canadian lawyer, military officer and writer. Life and career He was born in Toronto to Colonel George Taylor Denison II, and educated at Upper Canada College. In 1861, he was called to the bar, and was from 1865 to 1867 a member of the city council. From the first, he took a prominent part in the organization of the military forces of Canada, becoming a lieutenant-colonel in the active militia in 1866. He saw active service during the Fenian raids of 1866, and during the North-West Rebellion of 1885. Owing to his dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Conservative ministry during the Red River Rebellion in 1869-70, he abandoned that party, and in 1872 unsuccessfully contested Algoma in the Liberal interest. 	George Dennison George Dennison (1925–1987) was an American novelist and short-story author best known for ''The Lives of Children'', his account of the First Street School. He also wrote fiction, plays, and critical essays, most notably his novel ''Luisa Domic'' and a collection of shorter works, ''Pierrot and Other Stories''. Having grown up in a suburb of Pittsburgh, he joined the Navy during World War II, attended the New School for Social Research on the GI Bill, and took graduate courses at New York University. Although he devoted himself primarily to his art, he also taught school for a number of years, at all levels from preschool to high school. He trained at the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy with Paul Goodman and later worked with severely disturbed children as a lay therapist and teacher.
