George Day (bishop)
George Day (c. 1501 – 2 August 1556) was the Bishop of Chichester. Life He graduated at the University of Cambridge in 1520–21, and became a Fellow of St. John's College, Cambridge on 19 September 1522. Though apparently always a Roman Catholic in belief, Day submitted to the assumption by Henry VIII of ecclesiastical supremacy. He was made Master of St John's in 1537, Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge University, and Provost of King's College, Cambridge (though not a fellow of it) by special exercise of the royal authority, in 1538. Consecrated Bishop of Chichester in 1543 by Thomas Cranmer, he firmly opposed the spread of the Protestant Reformation under Edward VI. He answered in a Catholic sense Cranmer's written questions on the "Sacrament of the Altar", defended the Catholic doctrine in the House of Lords, and voted against the bills for Communion under both kinds, and for the introduction of the new Prayer Book. George Day (29 October 1826 – 13 July 1906) was an Australian politician. He was born in the Hawkesbury River district of New South Wales on 29 October 1826. He was elected from 1874 to 1880 as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, for the electoral district of Hume, and elected from 1880 to 1889 for the electoral district of Albury. He then served from 1889 to 1906 in the New South Wales Legislative Council. Bud Day
George Everette "Bud" Day (24 February 1925 – 27 July 2013) was a United States Air Force officer, aviator, and veteran of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He was also a prisoner of war, and recipient of the Medal of Honor and Air Force Cross. , he is the only person to be awarded both the Medal of Honor and Air Force Cross. He was posthumously advanced to the rank of brigadier general effective March 27, 2018, as directed by the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. Day's actions from 26 August 1967 through 14 March 1973 were the last to earn the Medal of Honor prior to the end of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War on 30 April 1975, though some honorees (e.g. Leslie H. Sabo Jr., honored on 16 May 2012) were cited for their medals after Day's recognition on 4 March 1976. George Edward Day
George Edward Day (1815–1872) was a Welsh physician. Life He was born on 4 August 1815 at Tenby, Pembrokeshire. He was the son of George Day of Manorabon House, Swansea; his father had inherited the fortunes of his own father, George Day, physician to the Nawab of Arcot, and his uncle, Sir John Day, solicitor-general in Bengal. His mother was Mary Hale. After his father's ruin by the failure of a bank in 1826, he was brought up by his grandmother, Mrs. Hale. Day entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1833, and after one term obtained a scholarship at Pembroke College where he graduated in 1837. He studied medicine in Edinburgh, where he obtained several medals. He took his M.A. degree at Cambridge in 1840. In 1843 Day began practice in London, becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1844, and a fellow in 1847. George Fiott Day
Captain George Fiott Day, (20 June 1820 – 18 December 1876) was a Royal Navy officer and one of the earliest recipients of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was also a Knight of the Legion of Honour. Naval career George Fiott Day was born in Southampton. He joined the Royal Navy as a First Class Volunteer in 1833. His first vessel sailed to the Pacific Ocean and was wrecked off the coast of Patagonia in 1835. After serving off the west coast of Africa, in 1838 he departed for six and a half years service in the Mediterranean Sea, taking part in the bombardment of St. John d'Acre on the Syrian coast in 1840. John Mapes Adams (October 11, 1871 – January 6, 1921) was an American Marine who received the Medal of Honor for valor during the Boxer Rebellion. His birth name was George Lawrence Day, but he served in the Marine Corps under the alias of John Mapes Adams. Biography John Mapes Adams was born October 11, 1871, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy. On July 13, 1900, while a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps he "distinguished himself by meritorious conduct" in battle at Tianjin, China (then Tientsin). His Medal of Honor was issued on July 19, the next year. He re-enlisted in Panama on October 11, 1902.
