George Cadle
George Ancil Cadle (May 9, 1948 – March 15, 2015) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, Cadle was a graduate of Middlesboro High School and the University of Tennessee. As an amateur golfer, Cadle won the Kentucky State Amateur tournament three times, in 1966, 1967 and 1969, playing on three different Bluegrass State courses. He made his PGA Tour debut in 1974 at the Bob Hope Desert Classic and joined the tour full-time a year later. His best finish in the 1970s was a tie for third at the 1979 Greater Hartford Open. He would record the second and final third-place finish of his career a year later at the 1980 Greater Milwaukee Open. Bobby Nichols
Robert Herman Nichols (born April 14, 1936) is an American professional golfer, best known for winning the PGA Championship in 1964. Early years Born in April 1936 and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Nichols attended St. Xavier High School. While in high school, Nichols and several other youths were involved in an automobile accident resulting from a joy ride. He suffered serious injuries including a broken pelvis, concussion, back and internal injuries, and was hospitalized 96 days. His legs were also paralyzed for about two weeks, but he was able to regain full use of his legs after intensive physical therapy. Nichols later played on the Aggies golf team at the Agricultural & Mechanical College of Texas (later renamed Texas A&M University) in the Southwest Conference. 1974 PGA Tour Qualifying School Graduates
This is a list of the 1974 PGA Tour Qualifying School graduates. After three 72-hole regional qualifiers, there were 78 players in the 144-hole final qualifying tournament. The finals were played over two week in November at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California and Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs, California. The top 19 players earned their tour card. Fuzzy Zoeller was the medalist. Bob Risch finished runner-up in was his fourth attempt to earn playing privileges. 1983 PGA Tour
The 1983 PGA Tour season was played from January 6 to October 30. The season consisted of 43 official money golf tournaments. Seve Ballesteros, Jim Colbert, Mark McCumber, Gil Morgan, Calvin Peete, Hal Sutton, Lanny Wadkins, and Fuzzy Zoeller won the most tournaments, two, and there were 10 first-time winners. The tournament results, leaders, and award winners are listed below. This was also the first season of the "All-Exempt Tour" which provided many more exemptions per year. For example, those that finished in the top 125 of the money list maintained full-time status rather than the top 60 which had been historic benchmark. Larry Gilbert
Lawrence Allen Gilbert, Sr. (November 19, 1942 – January 21, 1998) was an American professional golfer best known for winning the 1997 Senior Players Championship, one of the major championships on the Senior PGA Tour. Gilbert was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and was a distinguished member of the golf team. Gilbert led Middle Tennessee State to victory in the 1965 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships for which Gilbert won the individual medal. Gilbert spent most of his regular career years as a club pro in Kentucky and Tennessee. He won the PGA Club Professional Championship in 1981, 1982 and 1991. He also won ten Kentucky PGA Championships, three Kentucky Opens, one Tennessee Open and one Tennessee PGA Championship. Jodie Mudd
Joseph Martin "Jodie" Mudd (born April 23, 1960) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour. Professional career Mudd was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, where he developed into an honored amateur golfer. Mudd successfully earned a spot on the PGA Tour during 1983 PGA Tour Qualifying School. Mudd won four PGA Tour events during his career. His top year was 1990, when he finished 5th on the final money list, and won two of the Tour's most prestigious non-majors: the Nabisco Championship and The Players Championship. His best finish in a major championship was T-4 at both The Masters in 1987 and the 1990 Open Championship. Joseph Franklin Beard (born May 1, 1939) is an American former professional golfer who was a member of the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Beard won eleven PGA Tour events. Early years Beard was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and won the Kentucky state high school golf championship as a senior in 1957. College career He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he played for coach Conrad Rehling's Florida Gators men's golf team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 1958 to 1961. He was recognized as an All-American in 1960 and 1961. Gay Brewer
Gay Robert Brewer Jr. (March 19, 1932 – August 31, 2007) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and won the 1967 Masters Tournament. Life Brewer was born in Middletown, Ohio, and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. As an amateur, Brewer won the Kentucky State Boys Golf Championship in three consecutive years from 1949 to 1951 while attending Lafayette high school. In 1949, he also won the U.S. Junior Amateur, the most prestigious amateur event for golfers under the age of eighteen. In 1952, Brewer won the Southern Amateur. Brewer attended the University of Kentucky on a football scholarship because the school did not have golf scholarships. Head coach Bear Bryant used him in practice as a holder for the kicker on field goals and extra points. Brewer stayed at the school for two years.
