George Buckley (cricketer, Born 1875)
A cricket tournament, played as part of the 1900 Summer Olympics, took place on 19–20 August at the Vélodrome de Vincennes. The only match of the tournament was played between teams representing Great Britain and France and was won by 158 runs by Great Britain. The team for the French club included at least 11 British nationals, two of whom were born in France, and it is considered a mixed team. Originally, teams representing Belgium, France, Great Britain, and the Netherlands were scheduled to compete in a knockout tournament. After Belgium and the Netherlands withdrew, this left Great Britain to play France in a one-off match. Neither team was nationally selected: the British side was a touring club, the Devon and Somerset Wanderers (alias ''Devon County Wanderers''), while the French team, the French Athletic Club Union, comprised mainly British expatriates living in Paris. George Buckley (cricketer, Born 1889)
George Arthur Buckley (3 February 1889 – 1 December 1935) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1921. Buckley was born in Skegby, near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He made three minor Counties Championship appearances in 1909 for Cheshire. In 1913 he was playing for Keighley and Craven District, and was selected for Nottinghamshire against Leicestershire but had to withdraw because of injury. He made his first-class debut and only appearance for Derbyshire against Yorkshire in June 1921. His batting scores were 8 and 2, and he bowled 10 overs without taking a wicket. Buckley was a right-handed batsman and scored a total of ten runs in two innings in one first-class match. He was a right-arm medium-fast bowler and took no wickets in 10 overs. Buckley became a director of Sheffield United Cricket and Football Club. George Buckley (New Zealand Politician)
George Buckley (1830 – 19 November 1895) was a New Zealand runholder and politician. Buckley was born in 1830. He married Alexandrina McLean on 25 February 1860; she was the sister of John and Allan McLean. He was a partner in the Lyttelton firm Dalgety, Buckley, and Co. John and Allan McLean bought the Waikakahi run near Waimate in 1866, and they took Buckley into their business partnership. Buckley sold his shares to the McLean brothers in 1875. Buckley was a member of the Canterbury Provincial Council. He represented the Town of Lyttelton electorate (1862–1866) and then the Waimate electorate until the abolition of provincial government (1866–1876). He was a member of the Executive Council for three periods: in November 1866, from August to October 1871, and from April 1875 to June 1876. George Patrick Buckley (1 May 1881 – 30 October 1958) was an Australian politician. He was born at Tambar Springs to pastoralist James Walter Buckley and Annie Theresa Comber. He worked as a drayman, and on 22 September 1909 married Jessie Emma Jane Hungerford, with whom he had two daughters. He was an organiser and secretary of the Trolley and Drayman's Union, which in 1928 became the Amalgamated Road Transport Workers' Union of Australia (the Transport Workers Union of Australia from 1938). George Buckley (25 October 1866 – 10 November 1937) was a New Zealand farmer, soldier and adventurer. He ventured partway to Antarctica with the British Antarctic Expedition led by Ernest Shackleton. Early life George Alexander Maclean Buckley was born on 25 October 1866 at his parents' homestead, ''Casteron'', in the Christchurch suburb Heathcote Valley. His father was George Buckley, who at the time of his birth was a member of the Canterbury Provincial Council. Buckley had a least one sibling, a sister, Ruby; she would go on to marry Arthur Rolleston. From 1878 to 1880, Buckley boarded at Condell's House to attend Christ's College. He finished his education in England at Cheltenham College. Buckley joined the British Army in 1885, initially serving with the East Lancashire Regiment.
