George Brook (cricketer)
George Wilfred Brook (30 August 1888 – 24 July 1966) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Worcestershire in the 1930s. Brook had appeared for Yorkshire's Second XI as early as 1919, and also played as the professional for Bacup Cricket Club in the Lancashire League. Moving south, he played for Kidderminster Cricket Club, Obituary. '' Wisden Cricketers' Almanack 1967''. but it was not until 1930 that he made his first-class debut for Worcestershire, against the touring Australians at New Road. The county side were crushed by an innings and 165 runs, but Brook took four good wickets: those of Woodfull, Jackson, Bradman and McCabe. George Brooke (conspirator)
The Rev. George Brooke (17 April 15685 December 1603) was an English aristocrat, executed for his part in two plots against the government of King James I. Origins and education Brooke was the fourth and youngest son of William Brooke, 10th Baron Cobham, by second wife Frances, daughter of Sir John Newton, and was born at Cobham Hall, Cobham, Kent, on 17 April 1568 and was baptised with the name of George Cobham. He matriculated at King's College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, in 1580, and took his M.A. degree in 1586. At the time of his marriage, in 1598 John Chamberlain mentioned that he was lame. Career disappointment He obtained a prebend in the prebendary of the church of York, and was later promised the mastership of the Hospital of St Cross, near Winchester, by Queen Elizabeth. George Brooke, 9th Baron Cobham (29 September 1558) KG, lord of the Manor of Cobham, Kent and of Cooling Castle, Kent, was an English peer, soldier and magnate, who participated in the political turmoil following the death of King Henry VIII. Origins He was the eldest surviving son of Thomas Brooke, 8th Baron Cobham by his first wife Dorothy Heydon, a daughter of Sir Henry Heydon and Anne Boleyn. Eye was a United Kingdom constituencies, parliamentary constituency, represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, encompassing an area around the market town and civil parish of Eye, Suffolk. History Eye was once the smallest borough in the country, its claim based on the 1205 Charter of John of England, King John. The Charter was renewed in 1408, then many more times by successive monarchs. However, in 1885, the Town Clerk of Hythe, Kent, Hythe, south by land, proved that the original Charter belonged only to Hythe in Kent, the error having arisen from the similarity of their original Old English names, both building off a related root phrase (Hythe: landing place, Eye: land by water). George Mercer Brooke
George Mercer Brooke (October 16, 1785 – March 9, 1851) was a brevet major general in the U.S. Army. While a colonel, Brooke was ordered in 1823, along with James Gadsden, to establish a military presence in the vicinity of Tampa Bay, in the newly acquired Florida Territory. Objectives included containing the Seminole Indians and curtailing illegal activities along the Gulf Coast. Background Brooke was born in King William County, Virginia, to Richard Brooke (1760–1816), a planter and state senator, and Maria Mercer Brooke (1761-?). He married Lucy Thomas Brooke (1804–1839) and fathered John Mercer Brooke (1826–1906). Career Brooke was commissioned as a first lieutenant in May 1808, and served during the War of 1812. George's Brook is a designated place in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador that is a neighbourhood in the George's Brook-Milton, Newfoundland and Labrador, Town of George's Brook-Milton. It is north of Clarenville. History A post office opened in George's Brook in 1950 with its first postmistress being Mona Pelley. By 1956 it had a population of 197. In October 1985, the community got it first waymaster, Charles Pelley. In 2017, residents of George's Brook and the neighbouring community of Milton, Newfoundland and Labrador, Milton voted in favour of joining together to incorporate as a town.
