George Berz
Angel Rot were an American stoner metal group based in Manhattan, New York, United States. The original incarnation of the band consisted of bassist Mike Davis, vocalist/guitarist Tom Five and drummer George Berz. History Angel Rot was formed in 1988 Manhattan by bassist Mike Davis, vocalist/guitarist Tom Five and drummer George Berz. Tom Five had been a band member of seminal industrial/noise rock band White Zombie. Scott Sanfratello took over drumming duties from Berz in 1989 and was then replaced by Tony Mann a year later. In 1990 Steven Kleiner filled the drummer role and remained with Angel Rot until they disbanded. That year the band released the 7" vinyl single ''Screw Drive'', followed by another release in 1992 with another single titled ''Necrostrangle''. In 1993 the band recorded sessions for their full-length debut but the release date was delayed when the master tapes were lost. Stoner Metal
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Bands such as Weedeater, High on Fire and Electric Wizard creatively fuse both styles. ''IMPACT press'' was an Orlando, Florida-based magazine started in 1996 by Craig Mazer. IMPACT press ran for 10 years, printing its last issue in Spring 2006. Most of the articles were political in nature and usually supported the left and far left. During its 10 years in existence, IMPACT press printed 60 issues with print runs of at least 10,000 copies each. Copies of the magazine were available in over 50 cities around the United States. ''Unlistenable Hymns of Indulgent Damage'' is the debut studio album of Angel Rot, released on April 23, 1999 by Man's Ruin Records. The album was recorded in 1993 but delay in releasing the sessions occurred when the master tapes were lost. Reception Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic awarded ''Unlistenable Hymns of Indulgent Damage'' three out of five stars, praising the guitar work but criticizing the songwriting as lackluster. He called it "one of the most unique-sounding and grammatically challenged stoner rock albums issued in 1999, even by the underground genre's already unconventional standards." ''Impact Press'' also criticized the vocal performances but generally agreed on the music being enjoyable. White Zombie was an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band that formed in 1985. Based in New York City, they started out as a noise rock band, releasing three EPs and one studio album in that style before changing to a heavy metal-oriented sound that broke them to the mainstream.
