George Bentinck (Norfolk MP)
George William Pierrepont Bentinck (17 July 1803 – 20 February 1886) was a British Conservative politician. Background Bentinck was the son of Vice-Admiral William Bentinck, son of Captain John Bentinck, son of Willem Bentinck van Rhoon, younger son of William Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland. His mother was Lady Frances Augusta Eliza, daughter of Charles Pierrepont, 1st Earl Manvers. Political career After unsuccessfully contesting a by-election in 1843 for the borough of Kendal, Bentinck was elected to the House of Commons at his next attempt, when he was returned unopposed at the 1852 general election as one of the two Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Western division of Norfolk. He held that seat until he stood down at the 1865 general election, but returned to Parliament at an unopposed by-election in 1871. He resigned from the Commons in 1884. Sir William Bagge, 1st Baronet
Sir William Bagge, 1st Baronet (17 June 1810 – 12 February 1880) was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for West Norfolk from 1837 to 1857, and from 1865 to 1880. He was made a baronet in 1867, of Stradsett Hall, in the County of Norfolk. He was the son of Thomas Philip Bagge and Grace Salisbury, from whom he inherited Stradsett Hall, a large mansion in the parish of Stradsett, near Downham Market in west Norfolk. He married Frances Preston, with whom he had six children: four daughters, followed by two sons, William (Sir William Bagge, 2nd Baronet) and Thomas (Sir Thomas Bagge, 3rd Baronet). Bagge was succeeded by his first son, William, in the baronetcy, but he died childless a year later and was succeeded by his younger brother, Sir Alfred Thomas Bagge, 3rd Baronet. Clare Sewell Read (6 November 1826 – 21 August 1905) was a British agriculturist and Conservative Party (UK), Conservative politician. Early life He was born in 1826 in Ketteringham, Norfolk, and was the eldest son of George Read of Barton Bendish, Barton Bendish Hall, and his wife Sarah Anne, daughter of Clare Sewell. The family had been farming land in Norfolk for three centuries, and following private education in King's Lynn Read spent five years learning practical agriculture on his father's farm at Plumstead, Norfolk, Plumstead. He subsequently managed large farms in Pembrokeshire and Oxfordshire, before returning to Plumstead in 1854. In 1865 he inherited an farm at Honingham, Honingham Thorpe, which he farmed for the next three decades. He was described in 1870 as ''"a yeoman and tenant farmer on an extensive scale"''.
