Sir George Alexander (19 June 185815 March 1918), born George Alexander Gibb Samson, was an English stage actor, theatre producer and Actor-manager, theatre manager. After acting on stage as an amateur he turned professional in 1879 and, over the next eleven years, he gained experience with leading producers and actor-managers, including Thomas William Robertson, Tom Robertson, Henry Irving and Madge Kendal, Madge and William Hunter Kendal, W. H. Kendal. During this time, Alexander became interested in theatre management. In 1890 he took a lease on a London theatre and began producing on his own account. The following year, he moved to the St James's Theatre, where he remained, acting and producing, for the rest of his career. Among the most successful of the new plays he presented were Oscar Wilde's ''Lady Windermere's Fan'' (1892), Arthur Wing Pinero, A. W. George Alexander (Australian Cricketer)
George Alexander (22 April 1851 – 6 November 1930) was an Australian cricketer and team manager. He played for Victoria and for Australia. Alexander's place of birth is variously given as Britwell Salome, Oxfordshire, England or Fitzroy, Victoria; the latter appearing in Alexander's obituary in the 1931 edition of ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack''. Cricket career Alexander was a forceful bat and a fast roundarm bowler, who also acted as the manager of the Australian teams that toured England under Billy Murdoch in 1880 and 1884. He also managed the England tour of 1882–83 under Ivo Bligh that went to Australia to retrieve The Ashes. In 1880, in addition to his management duties, Alexander was one of the leading bowlers of the team that visited other colonies as well as England. Georg Alexander, Duke of Mecklenburg (german: Georg Alexander Herzog zu Mecklenburg; 27 August 1921 – 26 January 1996) was the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz from 1963 until his death. Early life Georg Alexander was born in Nice, France, the eldest son of the then Count George of Carlow and his first wife Irina Mikhailovna Raievskya (1892–1955). His father assumed the title Duke of Mecklenburg with the style Serene Highness following his adoption by the head of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his uncle Duke Charles Michael. The adoption of the title was confirmed by the head of the Imperial House of Russia, Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich on 18 July 1929 and recognised on 23 December by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. George Moyer Alexander (May 15, 1914 - January 9, 1983) was fifth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina, serving from 1973 to 1979. Early life and education Alexander was born on May 15, 1914, in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of George Rowell Alexander and Monimia Starrat. He was educated at the Jacksonville High School, before attending the University of Florida in 1935. He married Mary Danto Bedell on May 25, 1935, and together had two sons. George Caledon Alexander (4 October 1842 – 8 April 1913) was an English first-class cricketer. Alexander's batting style is unknown. He was born at Epsom, Surrey. Alexander made three first-class appearances. The first came for the Gentlemen of the South against the Players of the South at The Oval in 1866. George Alexander (July 9, 1867 – March 2, 1913) was a baritone and pioneer recording artist who made several best-selling records for Columbia Records in the first decade of the 20th century. Biography George Alexander was born in Baltimore on July 9, 1867, his birth name was Clifford Alexander Wiley. His initial recording activity was for Zonophone Records in 1902, and he subsequently recorded for Columbia Talking Machine Co. in 1903, where he produced the majority of his output. He also recorded a few sides for Victor Records in 1903. The same year, he made cylinder records for Edison under the pseudonym Arthur Clifford.
