Esmond George
Robert Esmond George (20 April 1888 – 1959) was an Australian theatre actor and director, but mostly remembered as a watercolor artist and art critic. His wife, professionally known as Elizabeth George, was a well-known journalist. History Esmond George was born in Hamilton, near Kapunda, to John Henry George (c. 1856–1892) and his wife Mary Kate George, née Burton (c. 1854–1922). His father, headmaster of Morgan school, died four years later as the result of a shooting accident. Elmer Ray George (July 15, 1928 – May 31, 1976) was an American race car driver. Born in Hockerville, Oklahoma, George died in Terre Haute, Indiana. He drove in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series, racing in the 1956–1963 seasons with 64 starts, including the Indianapolis 500 races in 1957, 1962, and 1963. Edward Alan John George, Baron George (16 September 1938 – 18 April 2009), known as Eddie George, or sometimes as "Steady Eddie", was Governor of the Bank of England from 1993 to 2003 and sat on the board of NM Rothschild and Sons. Eden George
Ernest Eden George (18 September 1863 – 2 May 1927), known as Eden George, was born in New South Wales and came to New Zealand as a young man. He made his career in photography and was active in Auckland and Dunedin, but mainly in Christchurch. Entrepreneurial, combative and confrontational, he entered the political scene. In his early life, he stood at five elections to the New Zealand Parliament, but he came last at every occasion. Surprisingly, he was elected Mayor of Christchurch in 1892 without, unlike all his predecessors, having ever served as a councillor on Christchurch City Council before. He had a most difficult year, was soundly beaten at the next election and told councillors that they "should forget him, as he would forget them".
