Bodie, Washington
Bodie is a ghost town in Okanogan County, Washington, United States. Geography Bodie is located at (48.832667, -118.896704), approximately by stagecoach heading north of Wauconda along Toroda Creek (County Road 9495) off Washington State Route 20. Bodie lies 2592 feet (790 m) above sea level. History of the region In 1886, prospectors Tommy Ryan and Phil Creasor discovered a continuous mineralized ledge in the North of Okanogan County, and claimed the area as Eureka Gulch, which soon after became known as Republic. Republic's rapid heyday boasted seven hotels, twenty saloons, nine general stores, and an undisclosed number of brothels. The quality of ore discovered spurred the existence of many nearby mines and townships, including the near neighbors of Wauconda, Washington, and Bodie. Bodie Mine
The Bodie Mine is an inactive, privately owned gold mine in Okanogan County, Washington, United States. It is located within a triangle formed by the town of Wauconda, Washington the original town of Bodie, Washington, and the later ghost town of Bodie, on Toroda Road. History The Bodie Mine played an historically important part of the Okanogan gold rush. Founded by Henry Dewitz after the Northern Colville Reservation was opened for mining in 1896. The Bodie Mine was started in 1897 to mine a block of five patented claims (Bodie, Bodie #2, West Cliff, Crystal Bluff, and Little George). Dewitz sold the claim to his brother Ben who in 1902 sold to the Wrigley family. The Wrigleys, famous for their gum and Chicago baseball team, built the steam-powered mill and established what became The Bodie Mining Company. Okanogan County () is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington along the Canada–U.S. border. As of the 2020 census, the population was 42,104. The county seat is Okanogan, while the largest city is Omak. Its area is the largest in the state. About a fifth of the county's residents live in the Greater Omak Area.
