Geoffrey O'Connor
Geoffrey David O'Connor is an Australian indie pop musician and producer based in Melbourne. He released his debut studio album ''Liquorice Night'' in 2007, under the alias of Sly Hats. O'Connor has since released the solo albums ''Vanity Is Forever'' (2011) ''Fan Fiction'' (2014) and ''For as Long as I Can Remember'' (2021) all through Chapter Music. O'Connor is also a member of indie pop group The Crayon Fields, on lead guitar and lead vocals. As a performer O'Connor’s first album under his own name was ''Vanity Is Forever'', which Triple J's Zan Rowe described as "a distinct step away from the indie-pop of his band. The record is full of synthesisers, and modern soft rock sounds and is written from the perspective of a guy who has both a heavy heart and a high libido". 2021 Music Victoria Awards
The 2021 Music Victoria Awards were the 16th Annual Music Victoria Awards. The ceremony took place on 9 December 2021 at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The 2021 awards featured a number of changes, including a brand new category for Best Pop Act and the inaugural Arts Access Victoria Amplify Award (for deaf and disabled musicians). All genre categories will now be assessed on the act rather than album, with the requirement that nominees have released at least multiple recordings between 1 July 2020 – 30 June 2021. New CEO Simone Schinkel headed up the event for the first time this year, taking over from Music Victoria founder, Patrick Donovan. The EG Awards of 2012 are the seventh Annual The Age EG (Entertainment Guide) Awards and took place at Billboards on 20 November 2012. The event was hosted by Myf Warhurst. The Music Victoria Awards (previously known as The Age EG Awards and The Age Music Victoria Awards) are an annual awards night celebrating music from the Australian state of Victoria. They commenced in 2006 and are awarded in Melbourne Music Week between October and December. The awards were initially an exclusively online public voted awards, changing in 2013. Edwyn Collins
Edwyn Stephen Collins (born 23 August 1959) is a Scottish musician, producer and record label owner from Edinburgh, Scotland. Collins was the lead singer for the 1980s post-punk band Orange Juice, which he co-founded. After the group split in 1985, Collins started a solo career. His 1995 single " A Girl Like You" was a worldwide hit. In February 2005, Collins was hospitalised after two cerebral haemorrhages which resulted in aphasia, and he needed months to recover. He resumed his musical career in 2007. A documentary film on his recovery, ''The Possibilities Are Endless'', was released in 2014. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. Claire Elise Boucher (; born March 17, 1988), known professionally as Grimes, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Her early work has been described as extending from "lo-fi R&B" to futuristic dance-pop, and has incorporated influences from electronic music, hip hop, and rock. Her lyrics often touch on science fiction and feminist themes. She has released five studio albums. Jens Lekman
Jens Martin Lekman (; born 6 February 1981) is a Swedish musician. His music is guitar-based pop with heavy use of samples and strings, with lyrics that are often witty, romantic, and melancholic. His work is heavily influenced by Jonathan Richman and Belle & Sebastian, and he has been likened to Stephin Merritt (of The Magnetic Fields), David Byrne, and Scott Walker. Early life Lekman was born 6 February 1981 in Angered, Gothenburg, next to an Estrella chips factory. As a child, he was not particularly interested in music, but the age of fourteen he was asked to play bass in a friend's cover band.
