Geoff Shaw (minister)
Geoffrey Mackintosh Shaw (9 April 1927 – 28 April 1978) was a Church of Scotland minister who had an unconventional ministry outside the normal parish structures and became the first Convener of Strathclyde Regional Council. He was widely expected to become the first leader of a proposed devolved Scottish Executive, but died before the Scotland Act 1978 had achieved implementation. Family and education Coming from a wealthy Edinburgh family, he was educated at Edinburgh Academy. He left with the intention of studying law at university with the aim of becoming a lawyer. He was called up for National Service in the Royal Navy, during which he felt a calling to become a minister. On his return he studied arts and divinity at Edinburgh University, graduating MA in 1950. As part of his theological studies, he went to Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York. Geoffrey Turton Shaw (14 November 1879 – 14 April 1943) was an English composer and musician specialising in Anglican church music. After Cambridge, where he was an organ scholar, he became a schoolmaster, then a schools inspector, while producing a stream of compositions, arrangements, and published collections of music. He was awarded the Lambeth degree of Doctor of Music. Shaw worked with his brother Martin Shaw, also a composer, while his son Sebastian was a Shakespearean actor who is remembered for the ''Star Wars'' role of Anakin Skywalker. Geoffrey Page Shaw (born 12 October 1967) is an Australian politician who represented Frankston in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2014, initially as a member of the Parliamentary Liberal Party until 6 March 2013, and then subsequently as an independent politician. On 17 March 2014 Shaw resigned as a member of the Liberal Party in advance of moves to expel him as a member of the party. Charges were brought against Shaw in September 2013, were withdrawn by prosecutors on 3 December, and referred to the Legislative Assembly's Privileges Committee. Lieutenant-Colonel Geoffrey Reginald Devereux Shaw (29 May 1896 – 8 September 1960) was a British barrister, and the Conservative MP for Sowerby. Early career Shaw was educated at Cheltenham College and King's College, Cambridge. On the outbreak of the First World War he joined the 5th Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, serving as an officer with them until February 1916, then transferring to the East Riding Yeomanry until the end of the war. He returned to Cambridge to study law, and in 1923 was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple. In 1924 he married Elizabeth Fuller, daughter of Admiral Sir Cyril Fuller; they had two sons and three daughters. Geoffrey Arnold Shaw (born 27 December 1948) is an Australian former national representative rugby union player who played for and captained the Wallabies. He made state representative appearances for both New South Wales and Queensland over an eleven-year period from 1969. Rugby career From the Illawarra region as a nineteen-year-old Shaw first represented for New South Wales Country against New Zealand in 1968. The following year he debuted for Australia in a Test match against Wales. In that same year 1969, Shaw was selected to tour with the Wallabies on the 1969 Australia rugby union tour of South Africa. Shaw was one of the new boys in the squad and at 20 years old, the youngest. He played in sixteen of the twenty-six matches including one Test match. Geoff Shaw (born c. 1945) is an Aboriginal ex-serviceman from Central Australia and an Aboriginal leader in Alice Springs who has been involved in many Aboriginal organisations.
