Alan Neville Gent
Alan Neville Gent (11 November 1927 – 20 September 2012) was a distinguished professor of the University of Akron widely recognized during his lifetime as a world-leading authority on the topic of adhesion physics, crystalline and glassy polymers, and the fracturing of rubber. Contributions to rubber science Gent discovered the Fletcher-Gent effect and created the Gent hyperelastic model. He was involved in the investigation of the O-ring failure in the space shuttle Challenger disaster. Gent also published more than 200 works about rubber science, many of which were important contributions on the subject. He was editor/author of the textbook Engineering with Rubber, and studied the conditions that cause cavitation in rubber under the action of hydrostatic tensile loading. Billy Gent
William Gent (19 June 1879 – 7 July 1957) was an Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A rover from Essendon Association, Gent was noted for his bad behaviour on the field. In 1904 he received a 20-game suspension for striking numerous Fitzroy players, while in 1907 he was suspended for life by the league for striking 's Dick L. Harris. Sir Christopher Charles Gent HonFREng (born 10 May 1948) is a British businessman, He is the former chief executive officer of Vodafone, a British multinational mobile phone company. Until 2015, he served as the non-exec chairman of GlaxoSmithKline, the world's fourth largest pharmaceutical company. Early life Born in 1948 in Bridgemary Hants, Gent was raised in Gosport, Hampshire. He attended Tenison's School, then a grammar school in Kennington. Edward Gent
Sir Edward James Gent (28 October 1895 – 4 July 1948) was the first appointed Governor of the Malayan Union in 1946. He was most famous for heading early British attempts to crush a pro-independence uprising in Malaya led by the Malayan Communist Party during the Malayan Emergency, before dying during the first year of the war in an aviation accident. Life Gent was born in 1895 was the son of John Gent (1844–1927) and Harriet ( Frankland) Randall. His original name was Gerard Edward James Gent, but he changed it to Edward James Gent, the reasons for which were unknown. Georgina Gent (formerly Stoop, born 13 January 1988) is an English tennis player. She won two singles and two doubles titles on the ITF Circuit, and reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 178. The AEGON Award-winning former professional player was coached by Damien Roberts. Personal life Stoop's parents are named Angus and Tessa and she has three older siblings, Sam, Olly and Milly, who she used to play tennis against. Her mother, Tessa, an interior designer spent time with her children playing tennis during their childhood. Ian Gent is a British computer scientist working in the area of artificial intelligence and specialising in the area of constraint programming. He is a professor at the University of St Andrews. He (along with Toby Walsh) first wrote about the phase transition in many NP complete problems, in particular SAT. He was also one of the first researchers to investigate full generic methods to handle symmetry in constraint programming.
