"Genius" is a song by British industrial metal band Pitchshifter, released in 1997, from their album ''www.pitchshifter.com''. It is usually considered one of the key songs that helped the band be successful, and is one of their most recognized songs. Song information Musically speaking, "Genius" can be considered a departure from previous songs from the band. It has a rock-influenced sound, with elements of dance music. Vocals also, are cleaner than previous releases. The song was used in the 1998 PlayStation racing video game ''Test Drive 5'', and is played in the movie '' Mortal Kombat: Annihilation'', as well as appearing on the movie's soundtrack. Pitchshifter (band)
Pitchshifter are an English industrial rock band from Nottingham, formed in 1989. The band was started by lead guitarist and programmer Johnny A. Carter, and bassist and vocalist Mark Clayden. The band’s early material was characterized for its gritty industrial metal sound with downtuned guitars and the use of drum machines, and has been cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh. With later albums the group's music became increasingly more melodic and strongly influenced by nu metal and drum and bass; particularly evident of their 1998 release '' www.pitchshifter.com'', which has been compared with groups like The Prodigy. Although Pitchshifter has found little mainstream success, the band managed to gain a platinum with the release of the '' Mortal Kombat: Annihilation'' soundtrack. ''Test Drive 5'' is a racing video game developed by Pitbull Syndicate and published by Accolade for PlayStation and Microsoft Windows in 1998. Development Accolade spent $3 million on a television advertising campaign for Test Drive 5 and Test Drive Off-Road 2. Reception ''Test Drive 5'' received "mixed" reviews on both platforms according to the review aggregation website GameRankings. In Japan, where the PlayStation version was ported and published by Capcom on 25 March 1999, ''Famitsu'' gave it a score of 26 out of 40. "Making Plans for Nigel" is a song by the English rock band XTC that was released as the opening track and lead single from their 1979 album ''Drums and Wires'', by Virgin Records. It was written by Colin Moulding, the band's bassist. The lyrics are told from the point of view of parents who are certain that their son Nigel is "happy in his world", affirming that his future in British Steel "is as good as sealed", and that he "likes to speak and loves to be spoken to." The single marked XTC's commercial breakthrough. It spent 11 weeks on the UK Singles Chart and peaked at #17. In 2016, the song was ranked number 143 on the Pitchfork website's list of the 200 best songs of the 1970s. It was also ranked number 73 in NME list of 100 best songs of the 70s.
