Gene Heffron
Eugene "Gene" Heffron (born October 1939) is an American former competitive ice dancer. With his skating partner, Vicki Camper, he won silver at the 1968 U.S. Championships and was part of the U.S. ice dancing demonstration team at the 1968 Winter Olympics. Heffron formerly coached at the Figure Skating Club of the Quad Cities in Davenport, Iowa. Ice Dancer
Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Couples and friends would skate waltzes, marches, and other social dances. The first steps in ice dance were similar to those used in ballroom dancing. Davenport is a city in and the county seat of Scott County, Iowa, United States. The United States Center for SafeSport is an American 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2017 under the auspices of the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017.
