Gender Balance Council
The Gender Balance Council (GBC) is an Emirati federal entity responsible for developing and implementing the gender balance agenda in the United Arab Emirates. The Council is chaired by Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment. The Council's responsibility including reviewing current legislation, policies and programs, and proposing or updating new legislation or programs in order to achieve gender balance in the workplace as well as reduce the gender gap across all government sectors, enhance the UAE's ranking in global competitiveness reports on gender equality and achieve gender balance in decision-making positions, as well as promote the UAE's status as a benchmark for gender balance legislation. Dubai Women Establishment
The Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) is an organization established in 2006 in order to support women in the United Arab Emirates. The organization is supportive of policies that empower women in the workplace, and help "develop an environment that fosters innovation." Retention of women in the workforce, by allowing them to balance their career and children is also an important goal of DWE. The Gender Equality Index is a measurement tool that shows how far (or close) the EU and its Member States are from achieving a gender-equal society. It was developed by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE). The Index produces a score that between 1 and 100.
