Geldrop
Geldrop is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, around 5 km east of Eindhoven city centre. Geldrop was a separate municipality until 2004, when it merged with Mierlo. Geldrop is noted for having a neighbourhood with streets named after characters and elements from the works of J. R. R. Tolkien. The spoken language is "Geldrops", a distinct dialect within the East Brabantian dialect group and very similar to colloquial Dutch. Transport The A67 motorway (part of European route E34) links Geldrop with Eindhoven. Geldrop railway station is on the Eindhoven–Weert line. Geldrop Castle
Geldrop Castle is a castle with park near the center of Geldrop, North-Brabant, the Netherlands. It is on the edge of the valley of the Kleine Dommel. History Van Geldrop The first known inhabitants were Philip van Geldrop and Jan van Geldrop, who built Geldrop Castle about 1350. They held Geldrop as a loan from Guelders. Jan van Geldrop succeeded his father in 1371. Jan van Geldrop participated in the 1371 Battle of Baesweiler on the Brabant side. In 1395 Jan's son Philip van Geldrop became lord of Geldrop. He was succeeded by his son Rogier van Geldrop in 1403. In 1403 Rogier was succeeded by his younger brother Philip. Philip van Geldrop continued in power till 1456, and became rather powerful. His daughter Jutta married Aert Daniels van Goor, and he became Philip's heir. Geldrop-Mierlo
Geldrop-Mierlo () is a municipality in the southern Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant. The municipality was created from the two former municipalities of Geldrop and Mierlo on 1 January 2004. Villages Geldrop-Mierlo had a population of in . It covers an area of . Mierlo
Mierlo is a town in the southern Netherlands, in the municipality of Geldrop-Mierlo, North Brabant. Until 2004, it was a separate municipality with an area of . Mierlo is home to a few interesting buildings, for example the old Council house and the windmill in the centre of the village. Sports clubs in Mierlo are Mifano and the Hockey Club. Mierlo also has a zoo (Dierenrijk), and 2 hotels (HIP and 't Anker) and two campsites ('t Wolfsven and De Sprink). Just to the south, separated by the A67 motorway, lies the Strabrechtse Heide. Andreas Antonius Maria "Dries" van Agt (; born 2 February 1931) is a Dutch politician and diplomat of the defunct Catholic People's Party (KVP) and later the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party and jurist who served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 19 December 1977 until 4 November 1982. Ernest Faber
Ernest Anthonius Jacobus Faber (born 27 August 1971) is a Dutch professional football manager and former player. He was most recently head coach of caretaker manager of Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven. Faber grew up in Eindhoven and played youth football at local club DBS until he joined PSV Eindhoven aged 13. Besides loan spells at NEC, Sparta and Groningen, Faber was part of PSV for 12 seasons and won four Eredivisie titles, a KNVB Cup and four Johan Cruyff Shields. He also played one match for the Netherlands national team in 1998. Injuries plagued Faber throughout his career and forced him to retire at age 32. Jeffrey Herlings (born 12 September 1994) is a Dutch professional motocross racer. He has competed in the Motocross World Championships since 2010. Herlings is notable for winning the 2012, 2013, and 2016 MX2 Championships; and the 2018, 2021 MXGP Championships Born in Geldrop, the Netherlands, Herlings was a member of the winning Dutch team at the 2019 Motocross des Nations event that included Glenn Coldenhoff and Calvin Vlaanderen. East Brabantian ( nl, Oost Noord-Brabants or Oost Brabants) is one of the main divisions of the Brabantian dialect group recognized by the ''Woordenboek van de Brabantse dialecten''. East Brabantian dialects are mainly spoken in the eastern part of the province of North Brabant. Classifications of Brabantian recognize it as a separate dialect group.
