Geil (song)
"Geil" is a song released by the German-based British duo Bruce and Bongo. It charted in several European countries, making it their best performing release of any type. "Geil" was released as a single in 1986 and topped the Austrian charts that year. The song was Bruce and Bongo's only major hit, making the duo a one-hit wonder. The song is considered a novelty song, with lyrics mostly in English. In German, the word "Geil" originally meant "horny" but by the 1980s had come to also mean "cool" or "awesome" in slang. For the older generation this sounded like a provocation, and it was meant to be one of course. The song featured lyrics stating that everyone is cool/horny ("Everybody's geil, g-g-g-g-geil"). It also featured a section about the tennis player Boris Becker, claiming that "Boris is geil", and imitating a tennis umpire. Monkey Island (album)
''Monkey Island'' is the seventh studio album by American rock band The J. Geils Band, though it is credited with the shortened band name of "Geils", the only album in their catalog that this was done. The album was released on June 9, 1977, by Atlantic Records. The album did not perform well in the marketplace, and would be the J. Geils Band's last original album for Atlantic Records after almost eight years with the label. It was, however, the band's first album on which they did not use an outside producer, as well as their first project with recording engineer David Thoener, with whom they later collaborated on their best-selling albums '' Love Stinks'' and '' Freeze Frame''. The album contains the studio version of "I Do," a live recording of which (from the album '' Showtime!'') would be the J. Geils Band's last hit single in 1982. Dr. William Edgar Geil (October 1, 1865, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania – April 11, 1925, in Venice) was an unordained evangelist, explorer, lecturer, photographer, and author of 10 books related to his travels. He lectured all over the world, illustrating his talks with lantern slides. He is believed to be the first American to have traveled the entire length of the 2,500-kilometer-long Ming section of the Great Wall of China. He visited the Five Sacred Mountains of China, about which he wrote in ''The Sacred 5 of China''. He came to be considered an expert in Chinese culture and religion. Donna Geils Orender (born February 14, 1957) is a sports executive and a former collegiate and professional basketball player. She was formerly president of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), and senior vice president of the PGA. Currently, Orender is the founder and CEO of Orender Unlimited, a Jacksonville, FL based advisory and consultancy firm. She travels the world as a motivational speaker and advocating for the empowerment of women and young girls through her non-profit organization Generation W.
