Geheyan Dam
The Geheyan Dam () is an arch-gravity dam on the Qingjiang River, a tributary of the Yangtze River, in Hubei, China. The dam is located in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County (which is part of the prefecture-level city of Yichang), just a few kilometers to the west (upstream) from the county seat, Longzhouping Town (). The dam was designed in 1987, and is equipped with a ship lift capable of lifting vessels of displacement. The dam played an important role in helping to ameliorate the impact of the 1998 Yangtze Floods. Qingjiang River
The Qing River () is a right (southern) tributary of the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) in Hubei province of south-central China., Geography Course The Qing River Headwaters originate at Tenglong Cave (Teng Long Dong) near Lichuan City, in Hubei's southwestern corner. The river is long. Its drainage area is 17,000 km², occupying large portions of the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Yichang Prefecture-level city. Ship Lift
A shiplift is a modern alternative for a slipway, a floating dry dock or a graving dry dock. A shiplift is used to dry dock and launch ships. It consists of a structural platform that is lifted and lowered exactly vertically, synchronously by a number of hoists. First, the platform is lowered underwater, then the ship is floated above the support, and finally the platform with support and ship is lifted and the ship is brought to the level of the quay. Yichang
Yichang (), alternatively romanized as Ichang, is a prefecture-level city located in western Hubei province, China. It is the third largest city in the province after the capital, Wuhan and the prefecture-level city Xiangyang, by urban population. Changyang Tujia Autonomous County
Changyang Tujia Autonomous County () or in Tujia language known as ''Changryangf Bifzivkar Zivzirxianf'' is an autonomous county in western Hubei province, People's Republic of China. It is under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Yichang. The county is located in the basin of the Qing River, a right tributary of the Yangtze. The river is flanked by mountains on both sides, the tallest of which - the Tianzhu Mountain - is tall. Arch-gravity Dam
An arch-gravity dam or arched dam is a dam with the characteristics of both an arch dam and a gravity dam. It is a dam that curves upstream in a narrowing curve that directs most of the water pressure against the canyon rock walls, providing the force to compress the dam. It combines the strengths of two common dam forms and is considered a compromise between the two. They are made of conventional concrete, roller-compacted concrete (RCC), or masonry.
