Geetanjali Shree
Geetanjali Shree ( hi, गीतांजलि श्री; born 12 June 1957), also known as Geetanjali Pandey, is an Indian Hindi-language novelist and short-story writer based in New Delhi, India. She is the author of several short stories and five novels. Her 2000 novel ''Mai'' was shortlisted for the Crossword Book Award in 2001, while its English translation by Nita Kumar was published by Niyogi Books in 2017. In 2022, her novel ''Ret Samadhi'' (2018), translated into English as '' Tomb of Sand'' by Daisy Rockwell, won the International Booker Prize. Aside from fiction, she has written critical works on Premchand. Early life and education Shree was born in the city of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh state on 12 June 1957. Mainpuri
Mainpuri is a city in Mainpuri district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Mainpuri district and is situated to the north-east of Agra and is 270 km from New Delhi. North India is a loosely defined region consisting of the northern part of India. Kali For Women
Kali for Women was a start-up feminist publisher in India. Urvashi Butalia and Ritu Menon set up Kali for Women in 1984, arguably the first Indian publishing house dedicated to publishing on and for women. When they decided to take this step, Butalia had worked with Oxford University Press and Zed Books in Delhi, while Ritu Menon was a scholar. They started with very little capital but with an urgent sense that they had to make Indian women's voices heard, through academic publishing and activist works, translation and fiction. ''Hans'' is the oldest and one of the most prestigious literary magazine, in Hindi language. History Established by Premchand in 1930, it had Mahatma Gandhi in its editorial board and continued till 1956, when it was shut down by Amrit Rai, due to financial woes. The magazine was revived in 1986 by Rajendra Yadav Rajendra Yadav (28 August 1929 – 28 October 2013) was a Hindi fiction writer, and a pioneer of the 'Nayi Kahani' movement of Hindi literature. He edited the literary magazine ''HANS'', which was founded by Munshi Premchand in 1930 but ceased ..., a noted short-story writer and novelist. Munshi Premchand
Dhanpat Rai Srivastava (31 July 1880 – 8 October 1936), better known by his pen name Premchand (), was an Indian writer famous for his modern Hindustani literature. Premchand was a pioneer of Hindi and Urdu social fiction. He was one of the first authors to write about caste hierarchies and the plights of women and labourers prevalent in the society of late 1880s. He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindi writers of the early twentieth century. His works include ''Godaan'', ''Karmabhoomi'', '' Gaban'', ''Mansarovar'', '' Idgah''. He published his first collection of five short stories in 1907 in a book called ''Soz-e-Watan''.
