Geesala
Gweesalia or Geesala () is a small village situated on the Gweesalia peninsula in the Electoral Division of Rathhill, in the Civil Parish of Kilcommon, in the Barony of Erris in western County Mayo, Ireland. The village has a national school, a community centre that contains a cafe and boxing club, two general stores, a post office, St Colmcille's Catholic Church, and one pub. History Built heritage Evidence of ancient settlement in the area include a ringfort and several reputed crannog sites in the neighbouring townlands of An Ráith, Tulachán Dubh and Dumha Locha. Jimmy Monaghan (Irish: Seamus Ó Muíneacháin) is an Irish musician from Belmullet, Ireland. He is the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the anti-folk band Music for Dead Birds. He has also released music under different names including ''The Crytearions'' and Christian Bookshop. Early life Monaghan was born in Danbury, Connecticut, and moved to Ireland at the age of six. He is of Irish and Italian descent. As a teenager he was an amateur boxer, winning four Irish national titles. He won a silver medal at the 2004 Four Nations tournament boxing for Ireland and received the Western People Sports Star of the year award the same year. Henry Coyle (born 8 July 1982) is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 2007 to 2013. As an amateur, he won the Irish welterweight championship in 2003. A shebeen ( ga, síbín) was originally an illicit bar or club where excisable alcoholic beverages were sold without a licence. The term has spread far from its origins in Ireland, to Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, the English-speaking Caribbean, Namibia, Malawi, and South Africa. Blacksod Bay ( ga, Cuan an Fhóid Duibh) is a bay of the Atlantic Ocean in Erris, north County Mayo, Ireland. The long and wide bay is bounded on its western side by the Mullet Peninsula. Its eastern side includes Kiltane Parish, which extends southwards from Belmullet towards Gweesalia and Doohoma. Geography Blacksod Bay, which contains many little islets, opens to the Atlantic Ocean. The granite found in this area as most of the rest of the substrate consists of ancient gneiss and schist. The Mullet peninsula is covered with fairly flat sand dunes. Blacksod Bay is wide at its mouth and is a safe place for anchorage.
