Geertruida Van Vladeracken
Geertruida van Vladeracken (18 April 1880 – 2 January 1947) was a Dutch composer, singer, and writer. Vladeracken was born in Haarlem to Gerard Pieter van Vladeracken and Jacoba Elisabeth Foreest van Vladeracken. She had three siblings. She studied music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Bernard Zweers and Anton Tierie. Vladeracken married the lawyer and composer Nicolaas Cornelis Vogel in 1901. After his death, she married the artist and pianist Jan Poortenaar in 1916. Vladeracken gave frequent vocal recitals throughout Europe and America, accompanied by Poortenaar on piano. This enabled Poortenaar to exhibit his art in many cities where he is now represented in museums. From 1922 to 1924, the couple toured Indonesia, where they presented recitals and Poortenaar painted. Haarlem (; predecessor of ''Harlem'' in English) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of North Holland. The Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA) is a Dutch conservatoire of music located in Amsterdam. This school is the music division of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, the city's vocational university of arts. Bernard Zweers
Bernard Zweers (born Bernardus Josephus Wilhelmus Zweers) (18 May 1854 in Amsterdam – 9 December 1924 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch composer and music teacher. Life Bernard Zweers was born in 1854 as the son of an Amsterdam book- and music shopkeeper and piano tuner. Although his father was an amateur singer, he strongly disapproved of his son’s musical interests, expecting him to follow him in the family business. Being fundamentally self-taught, he had some minor musical successes before his parents finally approved and sent him to study with Salomon Jadassohn in Leipzig in 1881-1883. The Netherlands Music Institute (Nederlands Muziek Instituut, NMI) is the central institution for the preservation of the musical heritage of the Netherlands. Nans Van Leeuwen
Nans van Leeuwen (23 December 1900 – 1 January 1995) was a prolific Dutch illustrator and author of children's books. Life Ferdinanda Emilia 'Nans' van Leeuwen was born in Amsterdam, the daughter of Klaas van Leeuwen, a painter and teacher. She graduated from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam in 1922. She moved to Rotterdam, where she taught at a girls' school from 1922 to 1962. She began illustrating children's books in the 1920s for other authors, and she eventually began to write and illustrate her own books. She is best known as the illustrator of a series of children's books featuring a goblin named Piggelmee that were published as a form of advertising by the Van Nelle coffee company in the 1930s and 1940s. Rie Cramer
Marie "Rie" Cramer (10 October 1887 – 16 July 1977) was a Dutch writer and prolific illustrator of children's literature whose style is considered iconic for the interwar period. For many years, she was one of the two main illustrators for a leading Dutch youth magazine, ''Zonneschijn'' (Sunshine). She also wrote plays under the pseudonym Marc Holman. Some of her work was banned during World War II because it attacked National Socialism, and she wrote for a leading underground newspaper during the war.
