Geert is a Dutch given name of Germanic origin, equivalent to the German Gerd and the English Gerry. The name is a condensed form of Gerard, itself a combination of the Germanic words ''ger'' (spear) and ''hard'' (strong or brave) meaning "strong" or "brave with the spear". The name's common female equivalent is Geertje. The pronunciation of the name varies slightly, depending on whether or not the speaker uses a variety of Dutch which distinguishes between the phonemes and . Geert Hofstede
Gerard Hendrik (Geert) Hofstede (2 October 1928 – 12 February 2020) was a Dutch social psychologist, IBM employee, and Professor Emeritus of Organizational Anthropology and International Management at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, well known for his pioneering research on cross-cultural groups and organizations. He is best known for developing one of the earliest and most popular frameworks for measuring cultural dimensions in a global perspective. Here he described national cultures along six dimensions: Power Distance, Individualism, Uncertainty avoidance, Masculinity, Long Term Orientation, and Indulgence vs. restraint. Geert Lovink
Geert Lovink (born 1959, Amsterdam) is the founding director of the Institute of Network Cultures, whose goals are to explore, document and feed the potential for socio-economical change of the new media field through events, publications and open dialogue. As theorist, activist and net critic, Lovink has made an effort in helping to shape the development of the web. Since 2004 Lovink is a researcher at the Faculty of Digital Media and Creative Industries at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) where he heads the Institute of Network Cultures. Geert Albert Bourgeois (; born 6 July 1951) is a Belgian politician of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), which he founded in 2001, who is currently serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He previously served as the Minister-President of Flanders from 2014 to 2019. Prior to this, he was a member of the federal Chamber of Representatives for the People's Union from 1995 to 2001, and then for the N-VA from 2001 to 2004. Gerardus Johannes (Geert) Lap (born Venlo, 24 December 1951- 26 April 2017 ) was a Dutch ceramist, known for his new approach to ceramics characterized as clay minimalism. Life and work Geert Lap studied at the AKV St. Joost from 1974 to 1976, and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie is from 1976 to 1979 under Jan van der Vaart. Geert Huinink () (born 29 April 1971) is a Dutch electronic music producer and classical composer. His compositions have been released under many different aliases. There is little published about him, but his name has surfaced around some influential and respected leaders in the Trance music scene. Geert Meijer (born 15 March 1951) is a Dutch association football, football manager and former professional player. Playing career Born in Sellingen, Meijer played as a Midfielder#Winger, left winger, and began his professional career in 1972 with FC Amsterdam. Geert Ludzer Mak (born 4 December 1946 in Vlaardingen) is a Dutch journalist and non-fiction writer. Geert De Vlieger (; born 16 October 1971) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career De Vlieger was born in Dendermonde. He started his career in his home country playing for Anderlecht and Beveren before moving to the Netherlands and playing for Willem II for four years between 2000 and 2004. Geert Hendrik Hammink (born 12 July 1969) is a Dutch former basketball player and current coach. He is the current head coach of the Skyliners Frankfurt of the German Basketball Bundesliga.
