GeenStijl
GeenStijl is a Dutch blog founded on 10 April 2003. The logo is a pink coloured crown within a circle. In the Dutch language, the term "geen stijl" (literal translation: no style) is used to describe an act by a person or organisation that lacks style or manners. GeenStijl often uses a provocative tone when referring to other Internet sites and blogs. Commenters on the site are called ''reaguurders'' which is a portmanteau of the Dutch verb ''reageren'' (meaning reacting/commenting) and the adjective ''guur'' (meaning cold/unfriendly). Famously, in March 2005 GeenStijl launched a plan to unseat the second Balkenende cabinet. GeenStijl announced on their website that they would bus people from all over the country to Rotterdam, where one of the cabinet parties was holding a convention. These people could sign up as new party members at the convention, and vote against the party's participation in the cabinet. GeenPeil
GeenPeil (Dutch "no poll") is a political initiative by GeenStijl ("no style" or "without style"), a Dutch weblog and political party known for its provocative content and its past hoaxes. The name refers to polling results. First initiative 2014 GeenStijl organized its first GeenPeil initiative during the 2014 European Parliament elections which were held between 22 and 25 May 2014 within the European Union. Being among the first to vote on May 22, Dutch municipalities were not allowed to publish the results of the election before those of the other EU members were known. Because the ''Dutch Electoral Act'' states that the chairman of every polling station has to read the electoral results out loud, if requested to do so, GeenStijl found 1,442 volunteers willing to register and call-in the results of nearly every polling station within the country. Dominique Weesie
Dominicus Jacobus "Dominique" Weesie (born 12 October 1969 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch journalist and founder of the weblog GeenStijl and the public broadcasting association PowNed. Biography After finishing his HAVO education at the ''Krimpenerwaard College'' Weesie began studying at the School for Journalism in Utrecht in 1988, but he did not finish his studies. As an intern he worked at the Rotterdams Dagblad newspaper between 1991 and 1993. After 1991 he became a political reporter at the newspaper De Telegraaf and stayed in this position until 2006 when he began working full-time for GeenStijl. GeenStijl In 2003 Weesie founded a weblog with De Telegraaf colleague Romke Spierdijk which evolved into the Geenstijl site. On the site he was known under his pseudonym ''Fleischbaum''. Dumpert
Dumpert is a popular Dutch online video platform and image sharing website owned by Mediahuis. Users (responders) can upload videos, photos, sound fragments and rate them with 'kudos'. Based on the amount of kudos, a top five with the most popular videos is compiled daily. Users can also post comments. The website was launched by GeenStijl, a Dutch blog and news News is information about current events. PowNed
PowNed is a Dutch broadcaster, which transmits radio and television programmes on the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. Each weekday evening it airs a satirical news show called '' PowNews'' on Nederland 3, in which politicians and other public and non-public figures are confronted with provocative questions, and often ridiculed. The broadcaster was affiliated with and was started up with the help of the popular GeenStijl shock blog. The director of PowNed is Dominique Weesie (who also presents ''PowNews'') and their star reporter is Rutger Castricum. Other reporters include(d) Jojanneke van den Berge, Jan Roos (also presenter of the radio programme ''Echte Jannen'' with Jan Dijkgraaf) and Daan Nieber. 2016 Dutch Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement Referendum
An advisory referendum on the approval of the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement was held in the Netherlands on 6 April 2016. The referendum question was: "Are you for or against the Approval Act of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine?" With a turnout of 32.28%, the threshold for a valid referendum was met. 61% of the votes cast were against the Approval Act, and 38.2% in favour. This accounted for 19.5% of eligible voters voting against and 12.2% voting in favour. As the Act was rejected, the States General has to enact a follow-up law to either repeal the Act or put it into effect after all. The referendum is the first since the enactment of the Advisory Referendum Act (''Wet raadgevend referendum'') on 1 July 2015, with the Dutch tapping law referendum in 2018 to be the second. Retecool
Retecool ( en, Asscool) is a weblog/webmagazine that has existed since May 23, 2000. The initiator of this project is Hubert Roth (aka ''Reet''). According to a survey by marketing blog MarketingFacts.nl, Retecool is currently the fourth largest weblog in the Netherlands. According to themselves the weblog is mainly visited by public aged between 24 and 44 years old. Retecool is a shock blog, similar to Geenstijl. Overview Retecool made a breakthrough in the media on June 19, 2001 with an article related to webcam abuse by teenagers. Retecool made the national press often through its regular "Foto Fuck Friday" event, the modifying of photos related to a current event. An example of this relates to the new Dutch television channel Talpa. Many photo modifications with the new channel as topic were sent in. The Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (; NOS ; English: Dutch Broadcasting Foundation) is one of the broadcasting organisations making up the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. It has a special statutory obligation to make news and sports programmes for the three Dutch public television channels and the Dutch public radio services. It is funded by the Dutch government. BNN (Dutch Broadcaster)
BNN or Bart's Neverending Network (formerly ''Bart's News Network'', as a pun on CNN) was a Dutch public broadcasting association supported by Netherlands Public Broadcasting. BNN was founded in 1997 by Bart de Graaff, Gerard Timmer and Frank Timmer and targeted teenagers and young adults. It produced entertainment and information television programming, radio programming, and feature films. Some of BNN's programming dealt with controversial subject matter, including most famously, a hoax reality special made to help raise awareness of the shortage of organ donors in the Netherlands.
