Nord-Pas-de-Calais
Nord-Pas-de-Calais (); pcd, Nord-Pas-Calés); is a former administrative region of France. Since 1 January 2016, it has been part of the new region Hauts-de-France. It consisted of the departments of Nord and Pas-de-Calais. Nord-Pas-de-Calais borders the English Channel (west), the North Sea (northwest), Belgium (north and east) and Picardy (south). The majority of the region was once part of the historical (Southern) Netherlands, but gradually became part of France between 1477 and 1678, particularly during the reign of king Louis XIV. The historical French provinces that preceded Nord-Pas-de-Calais are Artois, French Flanders, French Hainaut and (partially) Picardy. These provincial designations are still frequently used by the inhabitants. Higantes Festival
The Higantes Festival is a local festival held annually In Angono, Rizal, Philippines, where hundreds of giant papier-mâché puppets are paraded, representing the common people's mockery of the bad ''hacienda'' (land) owners of the past during Spanish colonial rule. It has evolved into also celebrating the feast of Pope St. Clement I, every 22 and 23 November. Origin The origin of the festival dates back to Spanish colonial rule, around the late 1800s, where the wealthy ruling class who ruled Angono as their ''hacienda'' strictly prohibited the common people from celebrating, except for one single festival in the entire year. The hardworking common people used the ''higantes'' puppets in their once-a-year festival, rendering the papier-mâché giants to look like the ''hacienderos'', mocking the owners throughout the festivity. Géant Casino () is a hypermarket chain based in Saint-Étienne, France, part of the French retailing giant Groupe Casino. As of February 2016, it had 120 stores in France. Dent Du Géant
The Dent du Géant ( It.: Dente del Gigante, "giant's tooth") (4,013 m) is a mountain in the Mont Blanc massif in France and Italy. The Dent du Géant remained unclimbed during the golden age of alpinism, and was a much-coveted peak in the 1870s, repelling many parties who attempted it mostly from the Rochefort ridge. In 1880 the strong team of Albert F. Mummery and Alexander Burgener tried to force a passage via the south-west face but were repelled by a band of slabs, causing Mummery to exclaim, 'Absolutely inaccessible by fair means!' The mountain has two summits, apart and separated by a small col (an 'extremely awkward notch' according to W. W. GEANT-3
GEANT is the name of a series of simulation software designed to describe the passage of elementary particles through matter, using Monte Carlo methods. The name is an acronym formed from "GEometry ANd Tracking". Originally developed at CERN for high energy physics experiments, GEANT-3 has been used in many other fields. History The very first version of GEANT dates back to 1974, while the first version of GEANT-3 dates back to 1982. Versions of GEANT through 3.21 were written in FORTRAN and eventually maintained as part of CERNLIB. Since about 2000, the last FORTRAN release has been essentially in stasis and receives only occasional bug fixes. GEANT3 was, however, still in use by some experiments for some time thereafter. Geant4 (for GEometry ANd Tracking) is a platform for "the simulation of the passage of particles through matter" using Monte Carlo methods. It is the successor of the GEANT series of software toolkits developed bThe Geant4 Collaboration and the first to use object oriented programming (in C++). Its development, maintenance and user support are taken care by the international Geant4 Collaboration. Hipermercado Géant is Uruguay's largest supermarket and is owned by Grupo Disco Casino (composed 50% by Grupo Casino and 50% by Supermercados Disco del Uruguay) and is the only supermarket under the Géant brand in Uruguay. It is located just outside the capital city Montevideo on the east, and over one of the most important access streets to Montevideo, Giannattasio Avenue, which connects Montevideo with the so call Ciudad de la Costa, the fastest growing area in Uruguay in the recent years. Although the surrounding is not very highly populated, it attracts buyers from both the east part of Montevideo and the Ciudad de la Costa due to being relatively close to both areas, being easily accessible by car and its low prices. André René Roussimoff (; 19 May 1946 – 28 January 1993), better known by his ring name André the Giant, was a French professional wrestler and actor. Roussimoff was known for his great size, which was a result of gigantism caused by excess growth hormone. It also led to him being called "The Eighth Wonder of the World". Beginning his career in 1966, Roussimoff relocated to North America in 1971. From 1973 to the mid-1980s, Roussimoff was booked by World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) promoter Vincent J. McMahon as a roving "special attraction" who wrestled for promotions throughout the United States, as well as in Japan for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
