GeForce 16 Series
The GeForce 16 series is a series of graphics processing units developed by Nvidia, based on the Turing (microarchitecture), Turing microarchitecture, announced in February 2019. The 16 series, commercialized within the same timeframe as the GeForce 20 series, 20 series, aims to cover the entry-level to mid-range market, not addressed by the latter. As a result, the media have mainly compared it to Advanced Micro Devices, AMD's Radeon 500 series, Radeon RX 500 series of GPUs. Architecture The GeForce 16 series is based on the same Turing architecture used in the GeForce 20 series, omitting the Tensor (artificial intelligence, AI) and RT (Ray tracing (graphics), ray tracing) cores exclusive to the 20 series. Nvidia NVENC (short for Nvidia Encoder) is a feature in Nvidia graphics cards that performs video encoding, offloading this compute-intensive task from the CPU to a dedicated part of the GPU. Volta (microarchitecture)
Volta is the codename for a GPU microarchitecture developed by Nvidia, succeeding Pascal. It was first announced on a roadmap in March 2013, although the first product was not announced until May 2017. The architecture is named after 18th–19th century Italian chemist and physicist Alessandro Volta. It was NVIDIA's first chip to feature Tensor Cores, specially designed cores that have superior deep learning performance over regular CUDA cores.
