Gdańsk Nowe Szkoty Railway Station
Gdańsk Nowe Szkoty is a former SKM stop in the quarter of Nowe Szkoty in Gdańsk, Poland. It is no longer used since June 2005, after canceling passenger service on Gdańsk - Nowy Port line. This line is now used only for freight transport. However, the halt was re-opened for a short time in November 2006 due to the renovation of the preceding SKM stop. General information The stop is connected with Gdańsk Politechnika stop. The platforms were almost parallel and it took few seconds to move from one to another. Right now the platform and former ticket office is devastated and its condition is getting worse every day. The line The line connecting Gdańsk Główny (''Danzig Hbf.'') with Gdańsk Nowy Port (''Danzig Neufahrwasser'') was opened in October 1867. It had been electrified in 1951, but the voltage was changed (from 800 V) into standard 3 kV in 1973. Nowe Szkoty (german: Neu Schottland/Neuschottland; en, New Scotland; csb, Nowi Szotland) is one of the neighbourhoods of the city of Gdańsk, Poland. It belongs to the administrative district of Wrzeszcz, Wrzeszcz Dolny since 2010. History Neu Schottland was a settlement between Kleinhammer and Młyniska, Schellmühl. A mill (''Abtsmühle'') nearby was established in the second half of the 16th century by the abbots or the Oliwa#Oliva abbey, abbey of Oliva. The mill pond was filled by the Strzyża stream (''Strießbach'') and the ''Königstaler Bach''. The name of the place comes from the Scottish people, Scottish settlers. An older settlement in the south of Gdańsk (in the district of Orunia-Św. Wojciech-Lipce) was named Stare Szkoty (''Alt Schottland'' – Old Scotland). Neu Schottland was divided into two parts. PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trójmieście Sp. z o.o. (); approximate English translation Tricity Rapid Transit Rail Ltd., usually abbreviated SKM, is a public rapid transit system in Poland's Tricity, Poland, Tricity area (Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia), in addition reaching out to Lębork (which is 59 km west of Gdynia), Kartuzy and Koscierzyna; its service extended in the past also to Słupsk, Pruszcz Gdański, Tczew, Elbląg, or even as far as to Iława. The SKM functions as a rapid transit and commuter rail service for the Tricity, operating frequent trains on the central section between Gdańsk and Gdynia, and less frequently to outlying sections. The SKM route has 27 stops covering the Tricity between Gdańsk, Gdynia and Wejherowo. Nowy Port
Nowy Port (german: Neufahrwasser; csb, Fôrwôter) is a district of the city of Gdańsk, Poland. It borders with Brzeźno to the west, Letnica to the south, and Przeróbka to the east (over the Martwa Wisła). The landmark of the district is the historic Nowy Port Lighthouse, which is open to visitors. During World War II, in 1939 and 1940, the district was one of places of imprisonment and executions of Polish railway workers by Nazi Germany. 2012 UEFA European Football Championship
The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2012 or simply Euro 2012, was the 14th European Championship for men's national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament, held between 8 June and 1 July 2012, was co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine (both first time hosts), and was won by Spain, who beat Italy 4–0 in the final at the Olympic Stadium, Kyiv, Ukraine. Poland and Ukraine's bid was chosen by the UEFA Executive Committee on 18 April 2007. The two host teams qualified automatically while the remaining 14 finalists were decided through a qualifying competition, featuring 51 teams, from August 2010 to November 2011.
