Gayson Gregory
Gayson Gregory (born 5 April 1982) is an Antiguan footballer who plays for Antigua Barracuda FC in the USL Professional Division and the Antigua and Barbuda national team. Club career Born in Bolands, Gregory was named Most Valuable Player of the 1999 season at the Antigua Football Association’s Hall of Fame induction. He joined Trinidadian side Joe Public F.C. in March 2001 to embark a career in professional football, whilst completing his secondary education. Gregory denied rumours linking him with a move to Hoppers FC in August 2003, but a month later did move to Hoppers. It was revealed in 2005 that Gregory was registered with two teams, Freemansville and Wadadli FC, and that Freemansville had made a request for him to be released from his contract with Wadadli. Bolands
Bolans is a community on the south-western end of the island of Antigua, headtown of the Saint Mary's Parish. It was once an agrarian community but has slowly been transformed into a centre of tourist activity. There are those in the community who involve themselves in agricultural activity, more as an avenue of feeding themselves or adding some needed income. Bolans is home to the world-famous Jolly Beach Resort as well as Jolly Harbour Marina and Boatyard which provides a sheltered dockage with 24-hour security and a full-service boatyard. It had a population of 1,888 in 2001. Hoppers FC
Hoppers Football Club is an Antiguan football club playing in the Antigua and Barbuda Premier Division. It is based in Greenbay. History The Greenbay Hoppers FC is a nonprofit organization which was formed over 40 years ago. One of the founders, Mr. Londel Benjamin who was President until 2009, along with fathers, grandfathers and uncles of present players organized a football team from the Greenbay community. Greenbay Hoppers FC took part in the CFU Club Championship in an attempt to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup. 2010 Caribbean Championship
The 2010 Caribbean Cup (also known as Digicel Caribbean Cup 2010 for sponsorship reasons) was the 2010 edition of the Caribbean Championship, an international football championship for national teams affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) of the CONCACAF region. The final stage was hosted by Martinique. Martinique were selected as hosts over fellow bidders Guadeloupe and Barbados. The competition was originally scheduled to begin on 18 August with the final match taking place on 28 November. However, at the beginning of August 2010, the CFU released a different schedule that showed the competition being postponed until 2 October. Also, the Bahamas pulled out of the competition, leaving 23 teams. The groups were changed, allowing Cuba and Antigua and Barbuda to get a bye to the second qualifying round at the expense of Guyana and the Netherlands Antilles. FIFA World Cup Qualification
The FIFA World Cup qualification is a competitive match that a national association football team takes in order to qualify for one of the available berths at the final tournament of the (men's) FIFA World Cup. Qualifying tournaments are held within the six FIFA continental zones, each organized by their respective confederations: AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), CONCACAF (North and Central America and the Caribbean), CONMEBOL (South America), OFC (Oceania), and UEFA (Europe). 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup
The 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup was the ninth edition of the Gold Cup, the soccer championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), and was won by the United States over Mexico. It was contested in the United States from June 6 to 24, 2007. This competition was the third overall edition of the tournament without guests (for the first time since 1993) from other confederations. As the winner, the United States represented CONCACAF at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. Guadeloupe, an overseas department of France, is not a member of FIFA. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. USL First Division
The USL First Division (usually referred to as USL-1) was a professional men's soccer league in the United States and Canada from 2005 to 2010. During its existence, it formed the second tier of soccer in the United States soccer league system behind Major League Soccer. It was operated by United Soccer Leagues (USL) and was known as the A-League, from 1997 until 2004. Several teams left the league in 2009 to form the new North American Soccer League, with the intent of running their own second-tier league. Billy McEwan (footballer, Born 1951)
William Johnston McGowan McEwan (20 June 1951 – 17 February 2022) was a Scottish professional football player and manager. He had a 14-year playing career in the Scottish and English professional leagues, playing for seven different clubs. McEwan then undertook a coaching career; he managed six different English league clubs, plus one club on a caretaker basis twice. McEwan was most recently the manager of Antigua Barracuda but left the post in 2011. Early life William Johnston McGowan McEwan was born on 20 June 1951 in Cleland, Lanarkshire. Playing career McEwan started his playing career as a midfielder with Scottish non-League side Pumpherston Juniors before joining Hibernian in 1969, making 60 appearances and scoring two goals for the Edinburgh club. Bryan Hamilton
Bryan Hamilton (born 21 December 1946) is a Northern Irish former professional football player and manager. He gained 50 caps for Northern Ireland between 1969 and 1980, and later managed the national team for four years. He later became Technical Director at Antigua Barracuda F.C., which no longer exists, having been dissolved in 2014. Biography Playing career Born in Belfast, Hamilton began his career at Distillery, before moving on to Linfield. He was named Ulster Footballer of the Year and Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association Player of the Year for the 1970/71 season, also finishing as Irish League top goalscorer. In 1971, he signed for Ipswich Town, where he spent five years and made over 150 appearances for the club. Damien Farrell (born 17 March 1984) is an Antiguan and Barbudan footballer who plays as a defender for Sani Pro Fort Road. Club career Farrell started his career with Empire. He went on trial with AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest following the end of the 2006–07 season. He also went on trial with Conference Premier club York City after he and Gayson Gregory had been recommended by Bryan Hamilton, a consultant for the Antiguan and Barbuda national team.
