Gateway High School (San Francisco)
Gateway High School is a charter school located in San Francisco, California. It was founded in September 1998. For many years it resided in the Sunset District at Laguna Honda before moving to its permanent location, at the corner of Geary and Scott, in the building that formerly housed Benjamin Franklin Middle School. The building is also shared with the KIPP SF Bay Academy, a 5-8th grade charter school. Gateway focuses on small class sizes, high standards, and a close student-to-faculty relationship. The school has been designated as a California Distinguished School and as a 21st Century School of Distinction. It has also been officially nominated by the United States Department of Education in December 2006 as one of eight acclaimed charter schools in the nation. Lick-Wilmerding High School is a private college-preparatory high school located in San Francisco, California, United States. History Lick-Wilmerding High School was founded on September 21, 1874 as the California School of Mechanical Arts by a trust from James Lick. George Merrill was hired to manage the school as the first director, and Lick, as the school was informally known, officially opened in January, 1895. Jockey
A jockey is someone who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession. The word also applies to camel riders in camel racing. The word "jockey" originated from England and was used to describe the individual who rode horses in racing. They must be light, typically around a weight of 100-120 lb., and physically fit. They are typically self-employed and are paid a small fee from the horse trainer and a percentage of the horse's winnings. Jockeys are mainly male, though there are some well-known female jockeys too. The job has a very high risk of debilitating or life-threatening injuries. Shawn Spikes Jr. (March 15, 1996-June 11, 2019) was a professional American thoroughbred jockey. At Golden Gate Fields, Spikes had a total of 141 starts and 3 career wins. Spikes also won a number of horse races in the California State Fair county horse racing circuit.
