Gastón Álvarez
Pedro Gastón Álvarez Sosa (born 24 March 2000) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a centre-back or left-back for La Liga club Getafe. Club career Álvarez made his professional debut on 31 March 2019, playing the whole 90 minutes in a 4–2 league defeat against Racing Montevideo. He scored his first professional goal on 11 May 2019, netting the equalizer in a 1–1 draw against River Plate Montevideo. Álvarez joined Boston River in April 2021 following Defensor's relegation to Segunda División. On 28 January of the following year, he moved abroad and joined Spanish La Liga side Getafe CF on loan until June 2023. International career Álvarez is a former Uruguay youth international. In June 2019, he was named in Uruguay's 18-man squad for the 2019 Pan American Games. On 21 October 2022, Álvarez was named in Uruguay's 55-man preliminary squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Melo () is the capital city of the Cerro Largo Department of north-eastern Uruguay. As of the census of 2011, it is the ninth most populated city of the country. Location It is located at the center of the department, on the intersection of Route 7 with Route 8, south of Aceguá and the border with Brazil. Segunda División Profesional is the second division of professional football in Uruguay, established in 1942. The league is sometimes referred to as ''Primera B''. The 2021 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División 2021, was the 118th season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 91st in which it is professional. The season, named "Dr. Tabaré Vázquez" after the late former President of Uruguay and chairman of Progreso from 1979 to 1989, started on 15 May and ended on 7 December 2021, with the starting date having been pushed back from early 2021 due to the late conclusion of the previous season owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
