Gaston LeBlanc
Gaston Thomas LeBlanc (August 1, 1941 – February 15, 1980) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Richmond in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1974 to 1980. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Born in 1941 in West Arichat, Nova Scotia, LeBlanc graduated from the Nova Scotia Technical College with an engineering degree. LeBlanc entered provincial politics in the 1974 election, winning the Richmond riding by over 1500 votes. West Arichat, Nova Scotia
Arichat is an unincorporated place in the Municipality of the County of Richmond, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the main village on Isle Madame on the southeastern tip of Cape Breton Island. Toponym The name derives from a Mi'kmaq word meaning camping ground, or worn rocks. History Arichat has a deep and protected natural harbour which made it an important fishing and shipbuilding centre in the 1800s. Jerseyman Island, which protects the harbour, was visited by Europeans fishermen as early as the 1500s. The village was sacked by John Paul Jones during the American Revolutionary War, after which two cannons were installed above the village. The LeNoir Forge was an important boat building site and is now a museum. Richmond (Nova Scotia Provincial Electoral District)
Richmond is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Replacing the former district of Richmond-Cape Breton West, it was created in 1933 when the counties of Cape Breton and Richmond were divided into three new electoral districts. In 1992, it was renamed Richmond. In 2013, at the recommendation of the Electoral Boundaries Commission, the district was renamed Cape Breton-Richmond, gained the town of Port Hawkesbury from Inverness and expanded northeast to include the area east of East Bay and west of the Mira River to Morley Road from Cape Breton West. Following the 2019 electoral boundary review, it lost Port Hawkesbury to Inverness and some territory to Cape Breton East, and reverted to the name Richmond. Gerald Doucet
Gerald Joseph Doucet, QC (May 4, 1937 – November 23, 2017) was a Canadian politician and lobbyist. He represented the electoral district of Richmond in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1963 to 1974, as a Progressive Conservative. Born in Grand Étang, Nova Scotia in 1937, Doucet graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1958, and went on to earn a law degree from Dalhousie University in 1961. Doucet was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in the 1963 general election, defeating Liberal leader Earl Urquhart by 83 votes in the Richmond riding. He was re-elected in 1967 and 1970. He served in the Executive Council of Nova Scotia as Provincial Secretary, and Minister of Education. When appointed in 1964, Doucet was the first Acadian cabinet minister in the province's history. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election.
