Gaston Briart
Gaston Briart was a Belgian geologist and mining engineer who worked and studied rock formations at Prince Léopold mine, Kipushi, Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The mineral Briartite, discovered in Kipushi in 1965, is named in his honour. Katanga Province

Briartite
Briartite is an opaque iron-grey metallic sulfide mineral, with traces of Ga and Sn, found as inclusions in other germanium- gallium-bearing sulfides. It was discovered at the Prince Léopold Mine, Kipushi, Shaba, Congo (Léopoldville) in 1965 by Francotte and others, and named for Gaston Briart who had studied formations at Kipushi. Paul Frédéric Joseph Fourmarier (25 December 1877 – 20 January 1970) was a Belgian geologist and specialist in tectonics, after whom Fourmarierite is named. Fourmarier was born in La Hulpe, Province of Brabant, Belgium and studied at the University of Liège, graduating in 1899. He became a professor of geology at the university in 1920. His specialist area was the study of fold structures and cleavage and he described the overthrust nappes in the Ardennes. He won the Wollaston Medal in 1957, and the Penrose Gold Medal The R.A.F. William Van Leckwijck
William van Leckwijck (16 November 1902 – 19 June 1975) was a Belgian mining engineer and geologist. He worked as surveyor and consultant across Europe for mining companies and became a professor at the University of Leuven from 1964. He served as an editor of the Lexique Stratigraphique International and became a secretary general of the International Union of Geological Sciences. Van Leckwijck was born in Antwerp but the family moved to England at the onset of World War I. Educated in Clifton College, Bristol, and at the University of Edinburgh, he then graduated as a mining engineer at the University of Liège in 1926.
