Gary Stronach
The Plymouth Raiders was a professional basketball team based in Plymouth, England. The team competed in the British Basketball League, the country's premier basketball competition. The club was founded in 1983 through a merger between two local basketball clubs and went on to be the longest-serving and most successful team in Division 1 of the English Basketball League. Between 1996 and 2004, Plymouth Raiders won six different competitions, including three National Basketball League Play-off titles and the National Cup in 2004. After several years of dominating the EBL, in 2004 the Raiders moved up to the franchise-based British Basketball League, pitting themselves against the country's elite teams. To date their only success in the top-tier competition came in 2007, winning the BBL Trophy, though the team has reached a further three Trophy and BBL Cup Finals since. British Basketball League
The British Basketball League (BBL) is a men's professional basketball league in Great Britain and represents the highest level of play in the countries. The league is contested by 10 teams from England and Scotland. There are no clubs however from Wales or Northern Ireland. The BBL runs three additional knockout competitions alongside the BBL Championship which are the BBL Cup, the BBL Trophy and the end-of-season BBL Play-offs. The BBL sits above the National Basketball League and the Scottish Basketball Championship which effectively form the second tier of British basketball. There is currently no automatic promotion or relegation between the English and Scottish leagues and the BBL because of the franchise system in use in the BBL although several clubs have been successful in making the step up from the EBL in recent years. Paignton
Paignton ( ) is a seaside town on the coast of Tor Bay in Devon, England. Together with Torquay and Brixham it forms the borough of Torbay which was created in 1998. Luol Deng
Luol Ajou Deng (born 16 April 1985) is a British former professional basketball player. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2012. Born in what is now South Sudan, Deng fled the country with his family as a child, eventually settling in the United Kingdom. He became a British citizen in 2006, and has played for the Great Britain national team. After playing college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, Deng was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2004 NBA draft with the seventh overall pick. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team as a 19-year-old in 2005. The small forward was an All-Star with the Bulls in 2012 and 2013 before splitting the 2013–14 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Roderick Wellington
Roderick Wellington also known as "The Duke" (born in Tooting, England) was a British professional basketball player, and played for the Leicester Riders in the British Basketball League amongst others. The 6 ft 5in tall Forward was educated at Marjon College, based in Plymouth and it was here where he started his professional basketball career with the Plymouth Raiders in 2000, then a National Basketball League team, having previously played for lower league club Sutton Pumas. After enjoying four very successful years with the Raiders, Roderick made the jump to the top-level British Basketball League with teammate Dean Williams, both of whom joined the Thames Valley Tigers in 2004, the same year that the Raiders also made the jump to the BBL. Terrence Durham is an American professional basketball player. Born in Albany, the 6'8" center was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University, which he attended from 1995 to 1999. He signed his first professional contract in 2000 with Plymouth Raiders, then playing in the second-tier National Basketball League. After one season with the Raiders, Durham moved to Portugal to play with semi-pro teams Sampaense (2001–02) and GD Fabril (2002–03), both in the lower leagues. Todd Cetnar (born 1978 in Amsterdam (city), New York, Amsterdam, New York, United States, U.S.) is a former professional basketball player in the United Kingdom who competed at the highest levels of England, British Professional Basketball. Guildford Spectrum
Guildford Spectrum is a leisure complex in Guildford, Surrey, England. Owned by Guildford Borough Council, it was opened on 23 February 1993 at a cost of £28 million. It is the home of ice hockey teams the Guildford Flames and the Guildford Phoenix, Aldwych Speed Club (short track speed skating) and other sports clubs. In addition to its large indoor sports arena, it has an Olympic size ice rink, three swimming pools and a high diving pool, a tenpin bowling centre, squash courts and a football/athletics stadium. The stadium adjoining the complex has 135 seats under cover as well as having a standing capacity of around one thousand. The Solent Stars were a basketball club from Southampton, who were one of the founder members of the British Basketball League, where they competed from 1987 to 1990. For the rest of their existence, the club competed in the English Basketball League and its forerunner the National Basketball League, and the club were members of Division 1 at the time of the club's demise. Sheffield Arena, known for sponsorship purposes as Utilita Arena Sheffield, is a multi-purpose arena located in Sheffield, England. It is situated near Meadowhall and lies between Sheffield city centre and Rotherham town centre.
