Gary Plummer (politician)
Gary Plummer is an American politician from Maine. Plummer, a Republican from Windham, Maine, served as a member of the Maine Senate, where he represented part of Cumberland County. Plummer was first elected to the Maine House in 2004 and was subsequently re-elected in 2006, 2008 and 2010. He was unable to run for re-election to the Maine House in 2012 and sought to replace William Diamond in Maine Senate (District 12). He did not seek re-election in 2014 and was replaced by Diamond. Plummer graduated from Gorham Teachers' College in 1968 with a B.A. and from the University of Maine in 1973 with a M.A. Career Plummer began serving in local or state office in 1975. William Diamond
G. William Diamond (born 1945) is an American Democratic politician, educator, small business owner, legislator and former Maine Secretary of State. Diamond currently serves in the Maine Senate representing Senate District 26, which comprises the towns of Windham, Raymond, Standish, Casco, Baldwin and Frye Island. Diamond served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1977 to 1982, was the Maine Secretary of State from 1989 to 1997, and has served in the Maine Senate from 1982 to 1986, from 2004 to 2012 and from 2018 to the present. He was a teacher in the Windham and Raymond school systems for 18 years and was the superintendent and director of governmental relations for the controversial Élan School in Poland, Maine. The Maine Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Maine. After the Civil War, Democrats were a minor player in a political scene dominated by the Republican Party. However, during the 1950s, Edmund Muskie led an expansive political insurgency culminating in his election as Governor of Maine and successive Democratic elections to both state and national offices. From 2012 to 2019, despite having a Republican governor in Paul LePage, the party remained strong, holding key offices in the state government and the U.S. Congress and maintaining a majority in the Maine House of Representatives for six of LePage's eight years in office.
