Gary Kershaw
Gary Kershaw was a NASCAR driver from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Career 1968 Kershaw was the 1968 stock car champion at Western Speedway in Victoria. He moved up to the Super Stock division in 1969, and won the 1969 track championship. 1981 Kershaw made his NASCAR debut at Riverside International Raceway competing in a NASCAR West Series combined event with NASCAR Winston Cup Series, so he was the best West series driver at the end of the race, however he is credited with a 12th-place finish in both series. He also competed in West Series following event at Phoenix and finished 17th. 1982 Kershaw returned to NASCAR West Series and ran 4 races, in all of them he finished in the Top 10, with a best finish of 7th (twice). 1981 Winston Western 500 (November)
The ''1981 Winston Western 500'' was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series race that was held on November 22, 1981, at Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California. NASCAR ran three Cup Series races at Riverside in 1981. Richard Childress decided to run a second Junior Johnson car if Darrell Waltrip were to have trouble or if he needed a car to win the championship. However, this was not needed because Darrell Waltrip would clinch his first Winston Cup series championship at this race over Bobby Allison. He would become the first champion not from the Carolinas since Virginia's Joe Weatherly in 1963. Riverside International Raceway
Riverside International Raceway (sometimes known as Riverside, RIR, or Riverside Raceway) was a motorsports race track and road course established in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, California, just east of the city limits of Riverside and east of Los Angeles, in 1957. In 1984, the raceway became part of the newly incorporated city of Moreno Valley. Riverside was noted for its hot, dusty environment and for being somewhat of a complicated and dangerous track for drivers. It was also considered one of the finest tracks in the United States. Western Speedway
Westshore Motorsports Park (formerly “Western Speedway”) was a race track located just outside Victoria, British Columbia on southern Vancouver Island. It was a 4/10-mile (643 meter) paved oval track founded in 1954 and was western Canada’s oldest speedway until its closure in September 2022. The track was able to seat up to 3,000 fans and park up to 1,500 cars with a season running from April to September. NASCAR West Series
The ARCA Menards Series West, formerly the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, NASCAR AutoZone West Series, NASCAR Winston West Series and NASCAR Camping World West Series, is a regional stock car racing series owned and operated by the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) and the NASCAR, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series was first formed in 1954 as a proving ground for drivers from the western United States who could not travel to race in the more traditional stock car racing regions like North Carolina and the rest of the southern United States. The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Phoenix Raceway is a 1-mile, low-banked tri-oval race track located in Avondale, Arizona, near Phoenix. The motorsport track opened in 1964 and currently hosts two NASCAR race weekends annually including the final championship race since 2020.
