Garth TenNapel
Garth TenNapel (born March 27, 1954) is a former American football player. After playing linebacker for Texas A&M University, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL) in 1976. TenNapel played in the NFL between 1976 and 1978. His career ended after his third NFL season when he suffered severe injuries in an automobile accident. Biography TenNapel was born in Los Angeles on March 27, 1954. He attended Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. He then played football at Texas A&M University. Early in the 1974 season, Associated Press sportswriter Herschel Nissenson wrote, "Remember the name Garth TenNapel. It's TenNapel, no space; not Ten Napel. Pretty soon it may be Garth Twenty-Tackle." TenNapel had recorded 20 tackles for Texas A&M in a game against Clemson University and again in an upset win over LSU the next week. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. As such, linebackers play a hybrid role and are often the most versatile players on the defensive side of the ball; they can be asked to play roles similar to either a defensive lineman (such as stopping the runner on a running play) or a defensive back (such as dropping back into pass coverage). 1976 NFL Draft
The 1976 National Football League draft was an annual player selection meeting held April 8–9, 1976, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The draft lasted 17 rounds, with the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks making the first two selections. The Buccaneers were awarded the first overall pick of the draft after winning a draw over the Seahawks, and used that pick to select defensive tackle Lee Roy Selmon. The expansion teams were also given a pair of extra picks at the end of each of rounds 2-5. The Liberty Bowl is an annual American college football bowl game played in late December or early January since 1959. For its first five years, it was played at Philadelphia Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia before being held at Atlantic City (New Jersey) Convention Hall in 1964. Since 1965, the game has been held at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee.
