Garrowby Stakes
The Garrowby Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at York over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. The race was first run in 2012. Until 2007, the name Garrowby (a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire) was given to a valuable 12 furlongs handicap run at the same meeting. York Racecourse
York Racecourse is a horse racing venue in York, North Yorkshire, England. It is the third biggest racecourse in Britain in terms of total prize money offered, and second behind Ascot Racecourse, Ascot in prize money offered per meeting. It attracts around 350,000 racegoers per year and stages three of the UK's List of British flat horse races#Group 1, 36 annual Group One, Group 1 races – the Juddmonte International Stakes, the Nunthorpe Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. Location The course is located in the south-west of the city, next to the former Terry's, Terry's of York factory, The Chocolate Works. Roger Charlton
Roger J. Charlton (born 18 January 1950) is an English racehorse trainer and a former flat racing jockey. He trains horses in Beckhampton Stables, near Marlborough in Wiltshire, England. He made an immediate impact as a trainer in England and Europe, including victories in both The Derby and the Prix du Jockey Club in 1990. There has been continued success with the likes of Three Valleys, Tante Rose, Harmonic Way, Trade Fair, Tamarisk, Bated Breath, Avonbridge, Striking Ambition and then Al Kazeem had a series of major victories in 2013. After retiring him to stud, Time Test appeared on the scene in 2015. Roger is currently assisted by his son Harry. Previous assistants include Lambourn-based trainers Ed Walker and Daniel Kubler. Henry David Nicholas Bourne Candy (born 28 October 1944) is a British racehorse trainer who specialises in training horses for Flat racing. Candy gained early experience in Australia and France before assisting his father, Derrick Candy, at his stables in Kingstone Warren in Oxfordshire. Harry William Meyrick Bentley (born 10 June 1992) is a British jockey. He is a 6 time champion jockey in Qatar. He is Currently racing in the jurisdiction of Hong Kong He was educated at Dorset House School and Eastbourne College. He won two Group 1s on Limato in 2016 - the July Cup and the Prix de la Forêt - but lost the ride to Ryan Moore for Royal Ascot 2017. Limato
Limato (foaled 8 February 2012) is a retired Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was a sprinter who produced his best performances over six and seven furlongs on good or firm ground. In a racing career lasting from June 2014 to September 2020 he ran 33 times and won 14 races, including two at Group One level. He achieved the feat of winning at least one Group or Listed race in each of his seven racing seasons. Limato was one of the best British juveniles of 2014 when he was undefeated in four races including the Rose Bowl Stakes and the Two-Year-Old Trophy, although, as a gelding he was ineligible to run in many of the most important races. In the following year he won the Pavilion Stakes and the Park Stakes as well as finishing second in the Commonwealth Cup and the Prix de la Forêt.
