Garrie Gibson
Garrie David Gibson (born 17 October 1954) is an Australian retired politician and ex CEO of RSL clubs Australia. Born in Brisbane, he was educated at the University of Queensland and the North Brisbane College of Advanced Education before becoming a primary teacher. He was an organiser with the Queensland Teachers Union before his election to the Australian House of Representatives in 1990 as the Labor member for Moreton. Division Of Moreton
The Division of Moreton is an Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. History The division was one of the original 65 divisions contested at the first federal election. It is named after Moreton Bay, and originally stretched from southern Brisbane all the way to the Gold Coast. While successive redistributions have left the seat completely landlocked, it has nonetheless retained the name of Moreton, mainly because the Australian Electoral Commission's guidelines on electoral redistributions require it to preserve the names of original electorates where possible. The seat was in the hands of the Liberal Party and its predecessors for 86 years before Labor regained it in 1990. The Federation of Australia was the process by which the six separate British self-governing colonies of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia (which also governed what is now the Northern Territory), and Western Australia agreed to unite and form the Commonwealth of Australia, establishing a system of federalism in Australia. James Wilkinson (Australian Politician)
James Wilkinson (30 November 1854 – 11 January 1915) was an Australian politician. Wilkinson was born and raised in Ipswich, Queensland, attending both state and grammar schools. During his early years he was an engine-driver and railways unionist before serving as an Alderman on Ipswich Council. Wilkinson represented the Electoral district of Ipswich in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1894 to 1896 for the Australian Labor Party. He was elected for the seat of Moreton in the Parliament of Australia in 1901, as an Independent Labour member, but rejoined the Labor Party in 1903. Wilkinson died in 1915. His funeral took place from his Martin Street residence in Ipswich and he was buried in the Ipswich General Cemetery. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Donald Milner Cameron Order of Australia, AM (born 6 February 1940) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Brisbane, and educated at the Anglican Church Grammar School and the University of Queensland. He became a junior corporate executive and then industrial officer for the Australian Association of Employers of Waterside Labour. He joined the Liberal Party of Australia, and in 1966, aged 26, he won the marginal seat of Division of Griffith, Griffith in inner Brisbane, and held it against determined challenges from the Australian Labor Party until 1977, when a redistribution nearly erased his majority there. He then shifted to the safer seat of Division of Fadden, Fadden. In the big swing to Labor at the 1983 election Cameron was defeated, but he was re-elected shortly after at a by-election for the seat of Division of Moreton, Moreton, which he held until 1990, when he was again defeated.
