Garo Antreasian
Garo Zareh Antreasian (1922 – 2018) was an American printmaker and educator. He was one of the co-founders of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, California. Biography Antreasian was born on February 16, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to an Armenian family. His parents had survived the Armenian genocide of 1915. Antreasian attended Arsenal Technical High School, where he was introduced to lithography. He studied at the Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis. He moved to New York in 1948 where he studied at Atelier 17 and the Art Students League of New York. In 1960 he was one of the founders of the Tamarind Lithography Workshop in Los Angeles, California. There he served as the first technical director and master printer. The Tamarind moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where it became known as the Tamarind Institute. An atelier () is the private workshop or studio of a professional artist in the fine or decorative arts or an architect, where a principal master and a number of assistants, students, and apprentices can work together producing fine art or visual art released under the master's name or supervision. Ateliers were the standard vocational practice for European artists from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, and common elsewhere in the world. In medieval Europe this way of working and teaching was often enforced by local guild regulations, such as those of the painters' Guild of Saint Luke, and of other craft guilds. The Archives of American Art is the largest collection of primary resources documenting the history of the visual arts in the United States. More than 20 million items of original material are housed in the Archives' research centers in Washington, D.C. and New York City. The Hyde Collection
The Hyde Collection is an art museum in the city of Glens Falls in Upstate New York. The collections were endowed by the Hyde family.
