Description The now ghost town is about north of Hartsel and south of Fairplay along Colorado Highway 9, at an elevation of . Colorado State Highway 9
State Highway 9 (SH 9) in the U.S. state of Colorado is a state highway through central Colorado. SH 9's southern terminus is at U.S. Route 50 (US 50) near Cañon City, and the northern terminus is at US 40 in Kremmling. SH 9 is part of the Gold Belt Byway from US 50 to High Park Road and the Colorado River Headwaters National Scenic Byway from US 40 to Trough Road. Route description State Highway 9 starts at a junction with US 50 west of Cañon City. It heads northwest, following Currant Creek most of the way to Currant Creek Pass where it enters an open area known as South Park. Cleo Spurlock Wallace (July 29, 1914 - August 26, 1985) was an American speech therapist born in Garo, Colorado. In 1933, Spurlock was one of the first six recipients of four-year scholarships to the University of Denver; she graduated in 1937. That same year, she married investment broker Thomas Wallace. She subsequently earned a Rockefeller Foundation Teaching Fellowship to the University of Denver, where she received a master's degree in speech pathology in 1943. Wallace then began teaching high school, where she received her first referral from a local physician. She worked with the child after school in her home; before long, she began treating other children with speech and language disorders. Hartsel is a census-designated place (CDP) and post office in and governed by Park County, Colorado United States. The Hartsel post office has the ZIP Code 80449. At the United States Census 2010, the population of the 80449 ZIP Code Tabulation Area was 909 including adjacent areas. The CDP is a part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Founded in 1880, Hartsel is close to the geographic center of the state, and is often referred to as "The Heart of Colorado".
