Garmendia
Garmendia is the surname of a family of the Basque Country region of Guipuzcoa, in Spain. The surname means "wheat mountain" (''gar'' 'wheat', ''mendi'' 'mountain'), after Garmendia de Iraurgui, later known as Salvatierra de Iraurgui, later the site of the cities of Azpeitia and Azkoitia. As almost every Basque family, Garmendia enjoys the status of hidalgo, of ancient origin, previous to the Reconquista. The coat of arms of some of its bearers is ''Argent, a boar sable, running away from a hunter, who injures it with a lance sable tipped azure, upon a hill vert with a tree vert.'' Germán Alejandro Garmendia Aranis (; born April 25, 1990) is a Chilean YouTuber, singer-songwriter, comedian and writer. He became famous for his YouTube channel HolaSoyGerman, which uploaded humorous videos about everyday situations. In 2013, he created his gameplay channel, JuegaGerman which, over time, would surpass his previous channel in subscribers. It also is the second-most subscribed channel in the Spanish language, behind Argentine channel El Reino Infantil. He is the most-subscribed YouTuber in Chile. Joseba Garmendia Elorriaga (born 4 October 1985) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Garmendia was born in Basauri, Biscay. A product of Athletic Bilbao's famed youth system, he made his first-team debut in 2006–07's first matchday, a 1–1 local derby against Real Sociedad. Cristina Garmendia y Mendizábal (born 1962 in San Sebastián) is a Spanish biologist and businesswoman. With no previous political career, she was appointed as Minister of Science and Innovation in April 2008 by the President of the Government of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. Nerea Garmendia Martínez (born 29 October 1979) is a Spanish actress and television presenter who has developed her career in theater and television. José Ignacio Garmendia Mendizábal (born 4 April 1960) is a Spanish retired Association football, footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. Francisco Garmendia (November 6, 1924 – November 16, 2005) was a bishop of the Catholic Church in the United States. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York from 1977 to 2001. Aníbal Pinto Garmendia (; March 15, 1825June 9, 1884) was a Chilean political figure. He served as the president of Chile between 1876 and 1881. Early life He was born in Santiago de Chile, the son of former Chilean president General Francisco Antonio Pinto and of Luisa Garmendia Aldurralde. He completed his studies at the Colegio Argentino de Santiago and the Instituto Nacional. Augusto Perez Garmendia (1899 in Donosti – 1936 in Pamplona), was a Spanish military man. He was Chief of the Spanish Republican Army General Staff in San Sebastián at the time of the coup d'état of 1936 that gave rise to the Spanish Civil War, although his official post was at Oviedo. Ion Garmendia Anfurrutia (born 1979) is a Basque musician from Ibarra, Gipuzkoa. He began taking voice lessons and studying txistu in 1988 in Ibarra. In 1997, he entered into a teacher training program in Gasteiz, and in 1999 began learning the alboka. In 2002 entered in Musikene (Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco) to study "nuevas tendencias en la música tradicional" (new trends in traditional music) under Kepa Junkera.
