Garfield merchandise is merchandise based on the “Garfield” comic strip by Jim Davis. Garfield is one of the world's most profitable and widely syndicated comic strips, and was specifically designed to be marketable. Before the sale of Paws, Inc. in August 2019, all the profits from merchandise went to Paws, Inc., of which Jim Davis is the CEO and founder.The following is a compiled list of selected merchandise based on the franchise. Books Compilations Since 1980, Ballantine Books has published compilations containing reprints of Garfield comic strips as they appeared in newspapers. These books were originally printed in black and white, but Volumes 37 and later, as well as reissues of earlier volumes, have been in full color. ''Garfield'' is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Originally published locally as ''Jon'' in 1976, then in nationwide syndication from 1978 as ''Garfield'', it chronicles the life of the title character Garfield the cat, his human owner Jon Arbuckle, and Odie the dog. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and held the Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip. Though its setting is rarely mentioned in print, ''Garfield'' takes place in Jim Davis' hometown of Muncie, Indiana, according to the television special ''Happy Birthday, Garfield''. ''Garfield in Paradise'' is a 1986 animated television special directed by Phil Roman, based on the ''Garfield'' comic strip by Jim Davis. It features Lorenzo Music as the voice of Garfield the house cat, other regulars Thom Huge and Gregg Berger, and guest star Wolfman Jack. It originally aired on CBS on May 27, 1986. This was the fifth of twelve Garfield television specials made between 1982 and 1991. The story concerns the characters visiting a tropical vacation destination. ''Garfield'' is a U.S. comic strip created by Jim Davis that has been the subject of numerous television specials and series. Many of these specials have been compiled on DVD releases. In June 2004, the DVD ''Garfield as Himself'', was released. DVD Talk critic Randy Miller judged the ''Garfield as Himself'' specials to be "quite enjoyable." The DVD debuted 35th in sales. That year, ''Garfield Holiday Celebrations'' appeared 23rd in TV DVD sales for the week of November 10, 2007. In 2014, ''Entertainment Weekly'' reported copies of the DVD "were selling on eBay like rare collector’s items." ''Garfield Holiday Collection'' was released on November 4, 2014, sold only by Walmart, and was also made available for digital download on November 11 that year. "The Movie" is the 54th episode of the sitcom ''Seinfeld''. It is the 14th episode of the fourth season, and first aired on January 6, 1993 on NBC. The special was first broadcast May 8, 1991 on CBS. It was nominated for Outstanding Animated Program at the 43rd Primetime Emmy Awards. It was the final in the series of twelve Garfield television specials, in spite of the success of ''Garfield and Friends'' as CBS cancelled new animated specials in 1990.
