Gareth Daniel Thomas (12 February 1945 – 13 April 2016) was a Welsh actor, born in England. He rose to national prominence playing the role of Roj Blake in the BBC science fiction television series ''Blake's 7'' (1978–81). Early life Thomas was born on 12 February 1945 in Brentford, England, and grew up in Aberystwyth, Wales. He was the younger of two sons of Kenneth Thomas, a barrister who had been a junior at the Nuremberg trials, and his wife, Olga (''née'' Noake). Thomas attended the King's School, Canterbury and was a member of the National Youth Theatre, appearing with them in the 1967 production of ''Zigger Zagger''. He then trained at RADA and became an Associate Member. Before his acting career, he played rugby. Gareth Thomas (born 25 September 1954) is a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. He was Member of Parliament for Clwyd West from 1997 to 2005. Early life Born in Penygroes, Gwynedd, Thomas is the son of a toolmaker. Although brought up on Merseyside, he is a fluent Welsh language speaker. He went to Rock Ferry High School on Ravenswood Avenue in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead. After graduating in law (LLB) from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1976, he was initially employed in the insurance industry and managed a loss adjusting company in the West Indies. He graduated from the Council of Legal Education (CLE) in 1977. Thomas has been a barrister in a private practice since 1986 specialising in personal injury litigation and is a member of Amicus. Gareth Richard Thomas (born 15 July 1967) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Harrow West since 1997. A member of Labour and Co-operative, he held the position of Minister of State at the Department for International Development from 2008 to 2010. Following the 2010 general election, Thomas joined the shadow frontbench team. Thomas is currently Shadow Minister for Trade Policy under the leadership of Keir Starmer. He served as Chair of the Co-operative Party from 2001 until 2019. Thomas sought to become the Labour Party's candidate in the 2016 election for Mayor of London, but came last of the six candidates in the ballot. Gareth Thomas (born 25 July 1974), nicknamed "Alfie", is a Welsh former professional rugby union and rugby league player, who represented Wales in both sports. With 100 test match appearances he was the most capped Welsh rugby union player until he was overtaken by Stephen Jones in September 2011. He is currently ranked 14th among international try scorers, and is the third highest Wales try scorer behind Shane Williams & George North. He also won four rugby league caps for Wales, scoring three tries. He played rugby union as a fullback, wing or centre for Bridgend, Cardiff, the Celtic Warriors, Toulouse, Cardiff Blues, and Wales. In 2010 he changed codes to rugby league when he transferred from Cardiff Blues to the Crusaders in Super League, and later played for Wales. He retired from rugby in October 2011. Gareth Thomas (born 1 September 1993) is a Welsh professional rugby union player who plays as a prop for United Rugby Championship club Ospreys and the Wales national team. Club career Thomas made his debut for the Ospreys regional team in 2014 having previously played for Carmarthen Quins, Llanelli RFC and Newcastle Emlyn RFC. He was also connected to the Scarlets region before joining the Ospreys. His cousin is Scarlets loosehead prop Steffan Thomas. International career Thomas was selected in the Wales squad for the 2021 July rugby union tests and made his debut off the bench against Canada.
