Garda RFC
Garda RFC is the rugby team with players drawn mostly from local areas of Westmanstown( Lucan, Leixlip, Dunboyne, Clonsilla, Castleknock, Blanchardstown) and members of Garda Síochána, the national police force of Ireland. It currently plays in Division 2B of the Leinster League. History The club was founded in February 1965 by rugby enthusiasts at the Garda Station in Pearse Street. One of its first coaches was the former Ireland and British and Irish Lions prop, Gordon Wood, who was also the father of the rugby icon Keith Wood. His memory is honoured by the Gordon Wood Trophy, competed for annually by the Garda and the Irish Defence Forces rugby teams. Other trophies contested by the club include the Eugene Crowley Cup against Monkstown, the Doyle Cup against Greystones, the Trevaskis Cup against Clontarf and the George Treiner Cup against Terenure. The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) ( ga, Cumann Rugbaí na hÉireann) is the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland (both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). Leinster League Division Two is the second division of Rugby in the Leinster League and started in the 1994/95 season. Terenure College RFC was founded on 5 November 1940. It is a senior rugby club in Dublin, Ireland, playing in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. History Terenure College RFC was founded on 5 November 1940. With a great love for the game and concerned that past pupils were not playing rugby union after leaving school, Rev. Clontarf Football Club is an Irish rugby union club based in Clontarf, Dublin and playing, as of 2018, in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. History Having played firstly in a field at the bottom of Vernon Avenue, then on a site currently used by Dublin Bus as a depot, the club moved to its present location in 1896 and celebrated 100 years at the Castle Avenue grounds in 1996. The "Bull emblem" used in the logo is that of the district - Cluain Tarbh, which translates as "the meadow of the bull". The red and blue colors used by most sporting clubs in the area. Monkstown Football Club
Monkstown Football Club is an Irish rugby club based in Dublin, playing in Division 1A of the Leinster League. In addition to the First XV, they also have Second (J2), Third (J3) and Fourth (J4) XV's, a mini rugby section and a Golden Oldies team. History The club was founded in 1883 in Monkstown as the name suggests, but moved to the Sandymount area in 1901 after leasing grounds at Sydney Parade from the Earl of Pembroke. Keith Wood
Keith Wood (born 27 January 1972) is an Irish former international rugby union player who played as a hooker for Ireland, the British & Irish Lions, Garryowen, Harlequins and Munster. He was nicknamed 'The Raging Potato' because of his bald head, and as 'Uncle Fester' due to his resemblance to the character in ''The Addams Family''. Gordon Wood (rugby Union)
Benjamin Gordon Malison Wood (20 June 1931 – 18 May 1982) was a rugby union footballer who represented Ireland and the British and Irish Lions during the 1950s and early 1960s. He also played for both Garryowen and Munster. His son Keith Wood would later play for the same four teams. Early years Wood was educated at Crescent College and once scored four tries - playing at wing against Mungret College. Among his team mates while playing for Crescent was the actor Richard Harris. Rugby international Ireland Between 1954 and 1961, Wood made 29 full appearances for Ireland. He made his Ireland debut on 13 February 1954 in 14-3 defeat against England at Twickenham. The British & Irish Lions is a rugby union team selected from players eligible for the national teams of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The Lions are a test side and most often select players who have already played for their national team, although they can pick uncapped players who are eligible for any of the four unions. The team currently tours every four years, with these rotating between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in order.
